Default 2002 Vue Airbag Control Module

Airbag light "on". Dealer told me I that I need a control module. ($500). I saw ads online that these Modules can be reset for $50. Is this a viable solution? Can I reset the airbag control module myself? I understand that the module is under the center console. What precautions should I take? Is Just disconnecting the battery ok before disconnecting & reconnecting the module?
any input would be appreciated.

The resetting they are refering to is after airbag deployment.

The SRS system (air bag system) does a great job at diagnosing itself, the only problem is a tech2 dealer diagnostic tool is required to read the errors.

if you are sure the control module is bad you could get one like This for $69.
Just make sure the numbers match

Thanks. I'll look into it. Dealer diagnosed it. I am the only owner of this car. It hasn't been hit or air bags deployed. The light just came on

Are any Precautions necessary when replacing the ControlModule. (Disconnect Batt for example). Or is it safe to just to unplug the old & Plug in the new.

You may want to visit following thread. There's a service manual extract in post # 6 explaining SDM replacement. I can email all the prerequisite files if you PM an address.
