Default AAS Amp Upgrade?

I've got the AAS system in my 04 sedan and was wondering, that silver amp-looking thing on the underside of the rear deck in the trunk is the factory amp....right? Is there any way to replace it with a more powerful amplifier? I upgraded all my speakers to Kicker and they should be nowhere near topped out when my stereo gets turned up, so I'm thinking it's the amplifier topped out. Is it a plug-and-play swap? Or even possible? Or just a job that would be harder than the actual payoff....

Because I've not messed with car stereos since I was a kid I'm not 100% sure. Yet I'll say it's very rare that the plugs on factory equipment match up to anything after market. What you might find is someone that makes an adapter.

you'll have to bypass the factory amp when you install an aftermarket amp then run all new wires to the doors. it's a pain in the as but totally worth it.

What I was thinking was swapping it out entirely, like the other poster said, using the existing wiring and everything, just if it was possible like that to take it out and put in a more powerful one

you might be able to use the speaker wires that are there already. I'd run better wires while i was there, you'll definitely need to run better power and grounds.

Here's the connector pin with TONS of wires going into the amp, does anyone have a pinout/schematic of which wires go to which speaker? The other connector seems simple enough, a red and black wire presumably power wires, but if I knew which wires went to which speaker it'd make upgrading the stock amp a lot easier!

Those look like a pinout for the head unit side of the system. Are the wires in the rear (where the amp is) coinciding with the colors from the front? And what about the tweeters?

I'm not familiar with the saturn amp, but it will need signal in (matching radio) and signal out, likely matching speaker wires. At least that's how I would attempt to identify.

I would check the back of the headunit to see of the wires match up to the amp. I can't find an internal wiring diagram/ output for the amp. there should be a crossover that separates the Highs from the mids and sends power to the tweeters and the mid range woofer, from one input. So one pair of wires to the crossover then two pairs coming out one for the tweeter and one for the mid.

The tweeters are simply tapped into the front speaker outputs. The tweeters & woofers are not fed separate signals or "bi-amped" like the Monsoon audio systems found in other GM vehicles.

I've attached a diagram that includes the wiring for both the radio and the amp. Some of the pinouts for the amplifier are mislabeled in the diagram. There are no leads that are labeled as input, and the rear speakers are labeled as "subwoofer". Someone will need to verify this, but it is my understanding that the rear speakers put out a full-range signal; not just low frequencies as the label "subwoofer" in the diagram may seem to imply. Here is how I believe they should be labeled:

A-B (EMPTY)
C: ground
D: constant +12v
E-H (EMPTY)

A1: RF out (+)...dk green
A2: RF out (-)...orange
A3: RR out (-)...lt blue/black
A4: RR out (+)...dk green
A5: radio on signal...pink (equivalent of remote terminal on an aftermarket amp)
A6-A8 (EMPTY)
A9: RF in (+)....lt green
A10: RF in (-)...dk green
A11: RR in (+)...dk blue
A12: RR in (-)....lt blue

B1: LF out (+)...lt blue
B2: LF out (-) dk blue
B3: LR out (-)...lt green/black
B4: LR out (+)...dk blue/white
B5-B8 (EMPTY)
B9: LF in (+)...tan
B10: LF in (-)...gray
B11: LR in (+)...brown
B12: LR in (-)...yellow

OK, I had the stereo shop do the install... He said I don't have the AAS? I showed him the window sticker and everything saying I did but the harness he used worked (he said the AAS system had a completely different harness)...I'm a little iffy about that but the thing works perfectly, stays on after I pull the key until I open the door; was the AAS available on both the single MP3 CD (which I have/had) and 6 disc changer head unit?

There's no denying that is an amplifier under my rear deck, just wanting to be sure I got all the right stuff, apparently my install did not use the GMOS-12 harness, some other one, I didn't get the model number.

I've read about them using a dodge harness that works and keeps on star working with the aftermarket headunit. this is why i haven't tried installing my double din pioneer yet.

Default Re: AAS Amp Upgrade?

AAS does not include the head unit
AAS=160-watt external amplifier and six premium speakers

Meaning you can add AAS to any head unit offered at the time. So if you have the amp and the tweeters you have AAS no matter what the guy at the radio store thinks.
