2003 L-Series 3.0L Wagon
Default 03 LW300 noise vibration shudder ! oh my

Howdy folks,

Wifes 03 LW300 just got new Mastercraft sneakers, alignment, balance etc...

On the drive home from the tire store -speeds over 50, noticeable vibration coming from the left side. Thinking, oh yeah thats a high speed balance issue so back to the store a few days later. Tire boys say nope no issues with the tire balance and the alignment tech says everything is good.

Its not my daily driver and she typically will turn UP the RADIO if theres a funny sound and somehow forget to tell me about -anyway took it for a long spin tonight and the sound happens at low speed and high speed but the shudder seems to be minimal -you still hear it but the steering wheel isn't shaking. Rev the engine -no change, hit the brakes no change

Steering wheel to the right -sound seems to disappear! _left it's still there

Code:
Sound is a wub wub wub wub increases frequency with car speed
I took the wheel off and didn't see any grave issues with ball joint, tie rod or sway bar end links ( by the way, that end link is a JOKE -super thin, I feel like I could snap it like a chopstick [/end rant]

OK - steering rack maybe? Or wheel bearing?

Doesn't seem to be alot of play in anything either - I took a pic of the rack -quality sux but it's late.

The only other thing, is that the lugs were not on very tight ( all the older cars I worked on have been PITA to the lug nuts off)

Any thoughts, suggestions, comments - please, don't be a stranger.

Thanks!

The noise changing or going away with steering input is typical of wheel bearings.

Thanks ssicarman.

When putting the wheel back on the car and adding a little torque to the lug nuts -took it for a spin. Noise is still there and I couldn't make it go away turning right

I've done some searching and I really don't want to struggle trying to replace the bearing - is it possible to buy a replacement hub and just rip and replace?

Code:
importautoparts.com/feed/g/wheel_hub/saab/95/2001/ can't post links yet
-I'd go for the febi
So that seems like <100$ fix without having to use a press, torch sledgehammer.
I wonder if it would come with the bearing? Forgive the ignorance, haven't given blood for this procedure yet.

Second thing is I ran across a thread where the guy would get a noise turning right and he had the dealership fix it by replacing the left front wheel bearing/hub assembly

Yikes my noise seems to disappear when turning right
On my car its the left front side

Turns out it was the axles that needed replacing - they was alot of movement.
