Default If it's not one thing, it's another.

This applies to 98 sl2.

I hope that this makes sense and I also haven't found another way to duplicate the problem..yet.

Race car, gets ran pretty much to its limits. And all is good. Except right when the race is over and normal driving occurs. Press on the gas normally and the response is putt putt. Like the tps is damaged or fuel pump is weak. The tps is newer. Replaced it last year after engine install. Got from advanced auto parts but cannot remember the brand. Never gotten into any major, engine shifting wrecks.... Yet. Knocking on biggest piece of wood in room. By the way I also have two chain mounts along with "factory" mounts. That baby isn't going far.

But I do suspect fuel delivery. Just BC it's been The problem since day one. Various problems-fuel related.
Anyways Bosch brand pump about two or three years ago. I wouldn't recommend anything else.

But what's got me confused is that the car snaps out of it whenever it feels like which is rather quick, and wont do it again until after its been run hard. I've heard of pump problems that require a turn key for 4 seconds and then it will start, but nothing like this. Is it possible that the pump would even cause this "new" problem?

But at this point, I'm looking for a starting point, without shelling out big bucks and receiving headaches. Here's the list of what has been done.

Throttle body cleaned, brass etcs, new plugs, wires, and coil packs. Newer fuel filter and regulator. There's more but I don't think it would be effective with this problem. I can say with certainty that it's not a power or ground problem with the pump...I just got done fixing that one, which turned out to be the "plug in".

Any and all ideas are welcome. Got nothing to lose.

I have more questions but will start new thread since its a different car.

Ah haa.
Newer fuel filter?
The 98's need a special filter, that has a pressure regulator in it.
Did you use that one, I believe it's a WIX xxxxxx?
Someone will have the # at their fingertips and chime in.

Yup. That's the one. It's newer. Maybe 3 years old...... Car doesn't get driven very much so newer "seemed" appropriate.

Another thing..... This has aluminum cam cover. And noticed today that two of plug wires were sticking up pretty far. Could be culprit. But even so..... I'm confused as to what made it happen. Never done that before. And it's always checked. Guess I'll run it and see what happens.
