Happy Just Got a New Project Car!!!!!

I haven't posted in a while but im now the proud owner of a:

94 SC2 Manual - 124K miles
Best Part.....ONLY $300!!!!

My nextdoor neighboor had this car for a while and ended up partially wrecking the front end. Folding the hood and destroying the bumper. Both of those parts are now on the car..bought from a JY, therfore different colors. All I need to get now are:

2- Front Fenders
1- Headlight Assembly

The frame in the front is the only problem....actually its the black part that says "Saturn Power Module" or whatever. Its dented and contorted all in towards the firewall but the radiator is still fine and hanging in its normal place. Im going to attempt to straighten that out with banging, heating...just whatever it takes.

I have big BIG plans for this car. Starting with gutting the entire interior, adding the basic bolt-ons, and taking various parts off the motor and professionally cleaning them at my job (Ethyl Corp. Im a R&D Mechanic). As soon as it stops raining and I can figure out how to post pics, you'll see it.

The frame itself is not damaged. The radiator support is bent but only slightly, not enough so where it would affect an inspection sticker or how the car drives. Its the Glossy painted black part in the very front when you open the hood, right behind the headlights. Its hard to explain but you'll get it when i post pics.

Yea its been sitting in his driveway for the past 5 or 6 months. Hasn't been started/driven since wrecked. I took the battery up to Autozone, let em charge it for an hour, brought it home and it started on the first try.

Its had synthetic in it since about 100K miles and it ran smooth, no knocks or any disturbing sounds other than the harmonious ticks of the fuel injectors lol.

I hooked up the istrument cluster and saw 2 lights, other than the parking brake and seatbelt and they were the Airbag and SES light. What can i do to get the airbag light out? When it was wrecked the airbags never deployed so it wasn't considered totaled.

Do you think it might only be a fuse or what?

That's kind of scary actually.

Unless the light was on BEFORE the accident, this means the airbag system failed to pop the airbag during the accident. Most likely, the damage to that bar mentioned earlier also tripped the sensor for the airbag.

If you have the tools, I'd pull the airbags, put a volt meter on to the airbag switch, and attempt to pop them by manually tripping an impact sensor.

Or, better yet, get the system professionally inspected.

Ok i just decided to pull the wiring harnesses on the 2 front airbag sensors until i finally get it up and running so i can take it to Saturn. At first glance i thought this was going to be easy but you know first impressions arent always the best. So now i need:

Wiring Harnesses for both front headlights
Various nuts, bolts, screws etc.
2 Headlight Assemblies
2 Fenders
plus many other odds and ends.

I hate to give this car to the junkyard or kidney foundation before i begin. I just really hope i can get it all done.

Depends how bent it is....mine is bent a little, but it doesn't matter. As long as the hood latches properly and the radiator and such is fine, I wouldn't worry about it....that's what someone at a body shop told me.....they fixed my hood so it latched properly.

Well, thats another problem....the hood doesn't latch closed, but it does close and is flush with one of the cracked fenders. I might be able to bang it forwards or take it to a family friends shop and see what he can do about it.

Hmm.... Danielle, where did i get a car for $300 recently?

My car was running as well, but i spun the bearings

I currently have almost $600 invested into my car, and its not nearly done. Most of it is small stuff like trips to the JY and everything. Its got leather interior so i gotta see if i can fix it up without tearing the shart out of it. Dry leather sucks

I too have body panels of different colors lol. I'm currently rebuilding the engine (all i need is a cylinder hone and i can start building) and i still gotta redo the trans.

That radiator cross bar is actually quite important. I would get another, straight, one welded in.

Once tweaked it's not as strong as it had once been. Once fatigued it won't have the rigidity of one that's never been punched.

Dude you are in for some serious fun trying to find front fenders and a headlamp assembly for an SC or SC2. Good luck to you .

Take it to Dyke Tire on Broad St....the guy will fix it for cheap (mine was free ), I knew the guy from a body shop. Me and my dad almost fixed mine, but we didn't have all the right tools.

Update!!!!
I've decided to disband the project car completely but not before pulling a couple of goodies off of it.

4 alloy teardrop wheels
The black speaker covers in the rear which look good on the light-grey tray package.
The rear seats w/ cupholders
4 polk audio speakers

So in the end i guess it wasn't a total loss, i too was skeptical about the frame damage, lack of available parts, and the airbag warning light on the instrument cluster. So now im sending it away to the kidney foundation, maybe they can fix her up and give it a good home.
