Hello smokeyvue,

This is a well discussed topic on the site. Do a search. There are many hits.

This is a how to. Very usefull.

My experience is to use a power tool with the EXACT fitting torx bit. Use a step ladder to get over the vehicle and put your weight on the tool to crack the screw loose. I got all mine out no problem using this method. Others on the site manged to break screws and strip the heads. The main problem is GM installs these torx screws with BLUE LOCTITE. Very strong stuff. The install kit calls for RED LOCTITE for re-installation.

After I had my bars installed and all good I applied a black caulk (DAP ALEX PLUS Acrylic Latex Caulk plus Silicone) to each of the holes. The caulk will shrink and it took 3 applications to completely fill the holes. This will prevent water from standing in the holes and also prevent any ice from forming in the holes (for our northern types, no worries here). So no rust and no plastic cracking.

My bars made a horrid whistling noise at freeway speeds and had a warranty repair for replacing the rubber "spacers" at each end of the bars.

The bars are noisy. They negatively affect gas mileage. They look great!

I decided to put Perrycraft DynaSport rails on mine, and then Yakima crossbars. The crossbars can be easily removed when not in use to prevent unnecessary noise and bad gas mileage.
