Default Removing inside door handle

I finally found a replacement door panel for the inside of the driver's door on my '94 SL2. (Old one had the usual arm rest failure.) It's all ready to install, but I can't figure out how to remove the door handle from the inside so I can remove the old panel. It has power locks and windows, if that makes any difference. Any suggestions?

The power door locks just add another rod connection from the actuator motor to the lock lever, so there will be three rod connections total - one for the handle that opens the door, one for the lock lever to the locking mechanism of the door, and one from the motor to the lock lever. Then you'll have the one electrical connector for the lock and unlock buttons... worry about that after you have the rods disconnected, because the wire has more slack in it than the rods do. Power windows won't cause you any extra work.

I find it's pretty easy to get the rods on and off if I have a dental hook in my right hand and a flat-head screwdriver in my left hand. You have about 1/2 inch of space to get your tools into, which is just enough to get the dental hook in to pull on the rods and the flathead screwdriver in to push them into place or pull the plastic retaining clips on or off. If you are having a hard time seeing what's going on in there, you may want to use a head-mounted light, as both your hands will be busy.

Best of luck!

The power lock actuator-to-lock lever isn't part of the handle; there's no point in removing it. Just follow saturncrzy's video.

Excellent video, showing all the important details of disconnecting and reconnecting the rods. Thanks! I'll be doing it this weekend.
