Default Stolen and totaled 2005 Ion2

Guess it's a day to post wrecks...

Mine was only 8 months old I guess the culprits even attempted to run after flipping the thing...

However, there is a happy ending:

http://www-personal.umd.umich.edu/~j...t/2006_ion.jpg

And yes, it looks exactly the same Other than a manual transmission and the lack of the mp3 CD player in this one, options-wise they are exactly the same. (Well, not counting OnStar and such).

Whoa...

I'm really sorry to hear about your Saturn . The only thing I think that's even good on your old ION was the passenger front door panel and maybe the engine and transmission if they didn't destroy those too! What in the world happened? Did they find the people with the car crashed or was the car abandoned like that? It looks like it drove right off a cliff!

Glad to hear you got another ION though, looks good!

I'll be honest, on the flip side, whoever was in the car probably got out with minimal injuries. The cabin looks to be intact for the most part. IMO the misc crap that's in the cabin was put there by the wrecker service. It does truly suck that you lost the car, but it also gives great piece of mind that even though the rest of the body was completley and utterly trashed, the occupants survived.

Scary, huh? I think the engine was toast, too, from the front impact. You can't see it in the photos, but I peeked under the front end, and up close things just aren't sitting right underneath the hood.

I still don't have all of the details, though. The Sheriff's Department handling things has been, shall we say, difficult? I've gotten more information from the guys working at the impound/storage lot than I did from the police. Granted, the cops have bigger fish to fry and this isn't a huge priority for them, but it's been frustrating. It took 8 days for me to find out that they recovered the car, and another 4 to find out where it was so that I could get the insurance people out.

Anyhow, there was a high-speed chase and the car apparently did an end over end, probably down an embankment. I have been told that they tried to run away but were caught. I still need to pick up a copy of the police report this week, which I'm hoping will fill in the holes that I can't get humans to.

Crawdaddy's right about the junk inside... it's pretty much everything that is no longer attached to the car. The seats took a beating and don't sit upright anymore -- but yeah, it does feel good to know how well the safety features worked.

Glad you got your ride back....sort of......by the looks of the damage they did, they probably didn't get away unscathed....

Good God. In a case like this, I wouldn't want the airbags to fire or seatbelts to lock.. let nature take its course.

Sorry about your car!

Its almost nauseating-sp? looking at those pictures, poor ion! Im sorry about your lost, but glad to hear you got a new 06-ion to replace your old one! I hope it wasn't to much of a hassle getting a new one through ins! I hope now you having a vehicle equipped with onstar will help with this issue from possibly happening again. Im just glad no one was hurt from these idiots idea of stealing and running with a car. Looks like the ion held up well considering what those monkeys did to it. Best of luck with your new one. bue05

Sorry to hear about your ION. It is good to know that an ION will protect the passengers in a wreck like that; although, you kind of wish it was smart enough to know who was driving an not protect them as well.

I didn't mention it before, but if I were you, before the car was crushed or whatever, I'd go grab the radio out of it lol. I'm sure it still works and is worth a decent amount :-D
