I finally found a good deal on a super clean 99 sw2 with leather, power windows, power locks, cruise, keyless and alloy wheels. But those options aren’t what sold me.. manual transmission! And 117k miles. Good optioned car from the original owner. Even included the key fob, owners manual and service history. Paid a solid 100 for it. It had overheating issues which was believed to be head gasket but after a radiator, thermostat, and temp sensor it seems to run fine and pass a block test. I’ve done all the motor mounts and valve cover gasket as well. Only issue I haven’t fixed is a sloppy shifter. The bushings are good, cables are newer(aftermarket I bet) and the shifter tower is tight itself. Most of the play is on the top of the trans. I’m excited to get back to a friendly and helpful forum. I’ve bought quite a few cars since my 01 sc2 and no forum/Facebook group has been quite like this one!

Wow, looks nice, and a fellow SW2 owner with similar mileage! Any rust issues? Couldn't tell where you're located from your profile.

100 bucks is a killer deal. The car runs great as well. I put over 100 miles on it today. Top mount was a dea brand from rock auto. I know not the best brand but I spent around 300 for all the parts to make this thing trouble free. I have a little vibration when cold but completely gone within a minute of running. As far as rust it is very clean everywhere except a small 1 inch spot on the subframe. I’m gonna cut it out and weld it before it gets too bad. One of my previous sl2s was scrapped for a rotted subframe.. control arm broke loose while driving and you can guess the rest.
Edited:forgot to mention I’m located in southern Indiana so it’s surprising this car is so clean. |

I dropped the pan on the liftband checked the mains. All good. I dropped the driveline and pulled the timing cover. It had a defective high pressure bypass. ... Replaced ($25) and put back together. A buddy of mine begged it off me abd paid $2500 for it - knowing well what little I had in it. 2 years later - it is still his daily commuter (75 mile round trip)

I always liked the SW-2s. Couldn't find a clean one, so I got a Vue.
