Wrench Give away new Saturn's.

Hear me out!

If they want to move Saturn's or cars in general why not start up a groundbreaking new promotion that causes people to rush to the dealerships to buy?

Give away cars!

How it would work is simple.

First, you have to buy a Saturn. There would be a ( realistic ) chance at the signing that you would win the car INSTANTLY. This would be the first chance to win. The dealership would still get a sale if the customer does not win. If the customer wins, the dealership gets a bonus. The dealer would have no control over the winner. It would go by a system of matching numbers, something ironclad that cannot be cheated.

Second, the owner still has many chances to win the car. If they paid for it hands down they can still win the car for free, with Saturn refunding the money to them. There could be chances each time you bring the car into the dealership for regular warranty service. For example, at your 30,000 mile you could win the car flat out.

If they are still paying for it and they win, the remainder is paid for and the amount already paid is refunded. Free car. HUGE brand cred. Word of mouth.

There could be other prizes. For example, extensions on warranties. Generous extensions.

OEM oil, filters, belts, etc for as long as you own the car. No tricks, no games.

Instant upgrades such as accessory packages. Better trim, tires, etc.

Sure this might sound as if I am asking for a game show, or that monopoly game at McDonalds. I am sort of - BUT the key difference is actually having people win - and often. The idea is to create a positive buzz about your brand. The goal is to create WORD OF MOUTH, positive word of mouth buzz. The best kind of ads.

The customers would love this.
The dealers would love this.
The sales numbers would love this.
The profits would go UP.

The key - don't have a moron(s) who set the game up. No matter how many people win it must come out in the green on your side. The most critical aspect is that the winners MUST come fast and big. No promotion where someone, ONE person wins after 6 months 1,000,000 paid over 20 years. You must produce winners and get them in your ads! Even show the moment when someone wins. Sort of when that van goes to peoples houses to show them a 1 million dollar check. ( but unlike PCH, people actually win )

What do you guys think?

Sales are down across the board. Car companies are bleeding cash, and talks of mergers are all over the place.

It's time to take bold steps and have them save their own asses!

...
- A different kind of company, a different kind of car.

No can do. This would violate gambling laws in most states. If you have to buy something or put down cash for a chance to win, it's gambling. That's why you see the phrase "no purchase necessary."

Remember the OnStar contest when you went into a dealer, pressed the onstar button on a car in the showroom, and you could instantly win a car? They gave away a lot of cars. I'm not sure how effective it was in driving more sales, but it sure brought a lot of people into showrooms.

The best Saturn could do with a contest is to either have one that brings a lot of showroom traffic, or had one that gives a lot of media buzz. Maybe have one that was very creative or had very high chances of winning. The problem with giving away a lot of cars is they would need it to generate a lot of sales to pay for itself.

No offense, but giving a way cars doesn't really seem to help business much, or so it seems to me.

Camry owner wins an Aura, drives it into the ground, buys another Toyota.

Saturn just took a ~$20k loss.

I would drive Aura to the ground like any car, but only after driving the Toyota off a cliff and watch it explode.

Oh believe me, so would I.

Maybe they should give away Toyota's. Then we can take it apart and prove at last that they are made out of the same material as fortune cookies!

I believe that they did that giveaway with pushing the ONstar button four years ago.

Awww, c'mon....GM took a 12 billion dollar loss last quarter, what's an extra 20 grand?...lol I like the idea but people are truly fed up with stupid car company gimmicks (0%, $5000 cashbacks, "loyalty cash", 72 month financing etc etc etc). Free cars might turn away already jaded potential customers even further away from GM. I don't know one single person who would consider buying a GM product, I doubt a free vehicle would change their mind.

There are Saturns occasionally being given away from time to time. I try to keep track of the various Saturn contests here:

All you have to do is enter to win!

I know! I'm SO sick of the devotion to motion contest! I never win anything, and I thought this time I would! haha.

Better luck next time I guess.
