2002 VUE 3.0L
Default Vue noise (maybe pulley)

I think one of my pulley bearings are bad. Vue has gotten louder than normal. It's not like a pulley squeal but rather metal kind of grind. Rev's up with the engine in drive and in park. Sound is on the passenger side ( since all the pulleys are there) but towards the rear. Couldn't see it good enough last night. Anyone have experience replacing an idler or tensioner pulley on these? I think one of them might be my problem.

I have an 02 3.0L Auto

I've seen the water pump and alternator both cause this noise..

You can pick up a stertscope for $5-$10 at harbor freight, etc....Would be helpfull for pinpointing noise.....9/10 times it's the water pump.

I saw a write up on another forum for re-greasing a pulley tensioner. You basically have to pop the back cover off the pulley (after the pulley is removed) and repack with grease. Don't know if it can be done on the VUE or not but I'm going to try on my other car as I'm getting a nasty squeal right now too.

Re-grease your pulley; link. Not sure if this is applicable to the VUE's.
