Default 2001 L200 Ecotec 2.2L head gasket leak

2001 L200 Ecotec 2.2L with approx. 150K
I am looking for advice on how coolant can find its way into spark plug well on piston 1. So far, coolant looks good and oil looks good but misfiring due to coolant in plug well. Followed a couple of other posts here and found some great tips...pulled off the head and visually see where the gasket let go on firewall side of piston #1. Applied a penetrant and developer to look for minor stress cracks around the plug seat and threads in the head but so far nothing??? Plug was not loose, and was recently replaced thus I thought it had been over torqued. Is it possible for the coolant to go through the threads on the plugs and head and accumulate in the spark plug well? I plan to reinstall the new gasket and head tonight and see if all is good. Is there a good way to detect exhaust gases escaping through the plug besides a little soap and water?

thanks for the help!!!
