Default AEM Short-Ram v.s. Generic 95-99 Eclipse Intake

I want an intake for my shiny new twin cam engine but I am not sure what I should get. I know the Eclipse intakes fit in there prety well and add a neat sound and probably a little HP. But I also know the AEM Fits perfectly and has a dyno sheet showing that it adds a decent amount of hp and it too has a mean sound to it. It's just difficult to rationalize spending $160 on the AEM if I can get an $18 intake that does near the same thing. Help me rationalize getting the AEM.

and no, there is no way I will get the AEM CAI...don't even bother suggesting it.

If you're not getting the full CAI it makes little difference what hot air intake you use. My friend just has a cone filter in place of his airbox, which is basically the same thing. The benefit with the eclipse or any other short intake is you get the mandrel piping for some better flow.

Default Yo...

I just got done installing and Eclipse intake, and it works great. For the cost:benefit ratio, I don't think it can be beat. Maybe the AEM is a LITTLE bit better, but for about 4 times the price, it's just not justifiable, in my mind.

I'll agree. For the small amount of horses an intake produces, you can't beat the value of the el-cheapo.

I would feel good for contributing to the Saturn aftermarket, though, if I went with the AEM. It's hard enough to find real Saturn performance parts, so we should support the companies who make them SO THEY WILL MAKE MORE.

But my wallet speaks louder to me than my loyalties, sadly...

Someone on here awhile back picked up the AEM short ram for something like $130.00; can't remember who at the moment, but it's a quality piece that fits right, and the one I'm going to go with once I get my financial situation squared away.

If you buy stuff for the Eclipse, people will think there's no aftermarket for Saturn. That's why I'm buying an HKS through Saturn rather than going to a local speedshop and getting a custom job done. I figure, an intake now, a supercharger later.

Ditto, buy stuff made for saturns. Ghetto rig it if it doesn't exist, but make sure to ask someone to make it for saturns anyways.
