I would say it is done. The radiator support and apron look like they are crushed, and unless you are good at body work I do not think it will be a straightforward fix. Sorry for your loss.

If you walked away unhurt, it did its job well.
I'd be looking for another one, most likely.
I had rear damage like that on my 97 after getting tagged by a semi and spinning into the center cable barrier on the interstate.
I was able to pull the unibody out myself and install body parts from a donor car, but the back end of the car has a lot less vital parts.

How pretty has it got to be?

Go rat.

Use a chain and tree to pull it back a bit and see how much Gorrilla Tape and baling wire it takes to make it driveable....

It would not hurt to pull off the hood, fenders and wheels and have a close look. Anything can be fixed to an extent, if you have the resources.

My 96 SL2 and 98 SL1 have joined together to become one. So I guess I now have a 1996/8

The bodywork is no big deal. The K frame can be replaced. The key parts are the forward unibody assemblies and how bent they are. Also depends on how insane you are. True insanity stops at nothing.

I would think it's easier to fly/buy a non-rustbelt car and bring it home and then swap in any parts that are markedly better from the wrecked one.

At least that way you won't have to wonder if the safety crumple zone is going to work right in the next accident.
