Default Manual Trans shifter cable woes

2000 sl2.

Last night, my car got stuck in 2nd gear due to a shifter cable end.

On transmission side, the lowest cable, inside the eyelet, lost its bushing, or inards. Ended up loosing the small clip during the proces, which isn't a huge deal.

But what is a deal for me, is making a repair to this eyelet. I found the inards on the ground, and it looks pretty worn out, so it probably won't hold. Haven't tried it yet.

Has anybody successfully repaired this issue, without replacing the cable? If so, could you direct me to the nearest write up, or share your expertise?

I think the OP is asking about the bushing on the other end of the cable, at the trans.

Yes, the bushing at the trans end seems to be easier to replace, as it doesn't have to swivel in two directions. I think somebody even used just a plain nut, with washers on either side, for a while to "bush" the hole. Maybe just a piece of rubber hose and washers, used similarly???

Precisely, Trans side.

That's an idea you got there. Might end up trying it. Really want factory style though.

Check out midway through this post where someone had success replacing the cable ends with Heim joints:

Just get the vest set you can find at pick n pull. The transmission side rarely fails so you can probably find some good ones.
The rod end replacement approach would be the most durable but very time consuming and require a lot of rigging to get right.

what are you going to do about the clip?

I also have manual, so I have read a LOT of threads over the years. There are a very few mentions of DIY replacements for that bushing at the transmission, but I cannot remember the specifics. It was not a specific part (like the dorman wiper bushing that you use at the other end), otherwise I would have put it into my notes.
