Default P0440 '98 Sl2

My wife's '98 SL2 is showing a P0440 DTC. When this first showed up, I replaced the gas cap without looking at the FSM. That didn't fix it. This morning I looked it up in my '97 FSM and all it says is to replace the cannister purge soleniod. I have a scanner that can clear active codes and it always comes back in a day or two. The odd thing is that the scanner shows the code in there twice. I've used the scanner several times and this is a first. Is there anything else I should try?

It being in there is strange. Sounds like maybe a programming issue in the scanner, like there are multiple p044X codes and the scanner can't differentiate. Anyway, EVAP canister is a likely culprit. How long has this code been on?

Not that long. I bought the car for my wife about 3 months ago. The light sterted coming on about 6 weeks ago, but it was about 3 weeks ago that it started staying on long enough for me to read it. The scanner is an Actron CP9125.

I'm adding a followup to this thread because I wanted to say what solved the problem. I replaced the cannister purge solenoid a week ago (That is one hard to get to bolt!!!) and the light hasn't come back. Thanks for the comments.
