Default Keyless Entry

Can someone please help me with programming the keyless entry for my SL2 (98)

The remote reads:
GM 16245100-29

MODEL/FCC ID: ABO1502T

Thanks.

(It's had some water damage but its been awhile an was thinking I could try to program it before I spend money for a new one. It's worth a try anyway.)

It's been a while but.....

***Make sure you have all remotes to be programmed present. Once you start the process all stored remotes will be erased. You may try as often as you like until programming is sucessful.***

1-key in ignition.....in off position
2-jump terminals 4 & 8 of the obd II diagnostic terminal
3-horn will honk
4-within 30 seconds press lock and unlock buttons simultaniously until doors lock/unlock
5-program next (all other) remotes...(up to max of 4) exact same way from step 4
6-when done remove jumper wire and confirm remotes work

Sit in the driver's seat and put your left hand on your left knee. Move it directly forward to the dashboard. RIGHT there, along the bottom edge of the dash, you'll find a 16-pin electrical connector. That's where you can connect your Saturn to one of a myriad of diagnostic tools, from a cheapie $50 code reader that only reads active service codes to elaborate hardware and software that will tell you everything about the car save the color of the driver's socks.

But I digress. The top row of pins are number 1-8 left-to-right. So pin 4 is 4th from the left, and 8 is the rightmost. If you're careful, you can jumper them with an appropriately bent paper clip.

Tabb's procedure matches that (as I remember it, anyway) from my '96 FSM. One thing to add: with her/his procedure, with normal use of the remote, the horn will sound briefly when you press "Lock". If you follow the same procedure, but with the key in the "RUN" position, the "Lock" function will be silent.

My 95 SL2 has electric door locks, how does one go about determining if the vehicle has keyless entry?

Could be wring but.....I think keyless entry came in '96. You're SOL unless you go aftermarket.

Do you know how durable those things are?? I had the one I'm trying to program about a year ago but it had some water damage. Well after i dropped it in the water I quit using it but I was going down the interstate and the doors were locking and unlocking by themselves. Well I gave it time to dry out and I went and got another battery for it this past week... and it doesn't work. Is it because its messed up for good or does it just need to be re programmed?

How long did it take from when the old battery came out until the new battery was put in?

If that time was just a second or two, you might have a defective remote. Otherwise, it would be worth the effort to try having it reprogrammed.

No, it stopped working, so I took the battery out... and then months later I bought a new one to see if It'd work..

Only way you're gonna find out is to try it. But normally no, they do not just de-program themselves.........

You can also try popping it appart and cleaning the contact pads with some light sand paper.

Thanks for the suggestion. i'm gonna try everything I can because at Saturn of Knoxville they're $55.. and I'm sure they charge a programming fee on top of that.

thanks again

I just got a 96 SC2, it has power locks and the owner didn't have a keyless remote. Does this mean the car didn't come with keyless or did they just lose the remote?

I would think that the '96 SC2 had keyless remotes, at least I know for a fact that the '97 SC2 had them.

'96+ had 3 power lock options...... keyless entry, alarm as well as just plain power locks. The only way I can think of to tell is to look for a starter kill relay or cross reference the control module part number at the dealer.....or you can try programming a remote. If you don't want to buy one, you can try using a friends remote. I THINK....most from '96-'99 are interchangable.

Control module is located in the r/r 1/4 panel, in front of the wheel well. You must remove the r/r seat back and the corner cushion to access. The starter kill relay is located under the l/f corner of the dash pad. It is taped up in an all black wiring harness.

I THINK that you may be able to retrofit the keyless entry and or alarm by repacing the control module and installing a starter kill relay. Best thing to do is to get a hold of a factory wirning diagram and have a look......

Idea Re: Keyless Entry

MY car does have a kill thing under the steering wheel. I'll see about checking the relay. I'd rather not have to tear the car apart. If this gives you any more info let me know. Thanks you everyone for the info.

That's just an aftermarket imobilizer....nothing to do with the factory alarm.
