Had to drop the gas tank on my 02 L300 due to a fuel leak.
The metal shield at the bottom of the tank was severely rusted. it fell to pieces when I removed the tank. I am concerned about heat from the exhaust. Any one else dealt with this issue ?

Ours was not quite that bad. I wire brushed it and added a bunch of rust spray and then painted it a couple of times.
I found a new/used subframe in TX. Perhaps you could fine a new/used gas tank shield from a southern bone yard. |

lrbraner, I would be concerned as well! Just in case you've not visited this website for wrecking yards in the U.S. take a look at this site. > https://www.car-part.com/
I've made purchases through yards listed there. If you're able to find a shield from yard on the website be aware that due to the size and packaging of this part shipping will be fairly expensive. If they have a corporate account it will be less, but still not cheap. Here in SoCal there are plenty of shields to be found in self-serve wrecking yards. I would expect that some could be found throughout CA in traditional yards as well.
