Gas Station Misery

04 2.2 FWD Vue:

I have to put in gas at the rate of a dribble, else the pump shuts off. This is regardless of the gas station, type of gas, whether the rubber/vinyl lip on the nozzle is in position or pulled out of the way, angle of the nozzle, or the price of gas.

I've never seen or heard of this in all my years on any car. Anyone have a clue?

Look carefully in the passenger side rear wheel well. You'll see where the filler tube and vent tube enter the fuel tank.

There is a check valve in the filler tube, just as it enters the fuel tank. This valve may be damaged.

My kid said the vue had trouble restarting after fueling. Now that I am driving I did notice it did not start easily but I only put in 3-4 gal last week. I live about 1 mile from gas station so vue was not warmed up. I hit key and thought it started but tach said zero. I retried it started. So, I have not looked into issue
Think she said it fills fine and I seemed to also see that.
