Default Radiator Advice

It goes against who I am to even post this, but I am in a tight spot. My radiator has a leak, and it looks like it is leaking where the plastic meets metal on the drivers side. I am against this, but I am wondering if there is anything that could be safely used in the system to plug the leak without doing ANY kind of other harm? It is a 95 SL2 with an automatic so the radiator has the trans cooler on the side with the leak.

Look up K Seal. Itís a copper/ceramic based product. I cracked a new radiator an my explorer in a rear end accident. K seal fixed the leak right up. It Works great and wonít hurt anything else.

Just replace it. I got one at our local NAPA for 99.99 before tax. If you pour anything in there you run the risk of plugging your system and ruining your car.

The plastic is known to crack in that area over time due to expansion and contraction. While some have fixed the crack temporarily it almost always results in eventually replacing the radiator. Save yourself some time and aggravation and just replace it.

Here's what it looks like front and back. It typically hemorrhages into the engine bay as it did in this case.

May want to do some reading - I don't think it gets good until around page 2 or 3, as the early attempts failed shortly afterwards

I am a strong believer that repairs in a bottle are bad. This is an easy replacement.

I strongly agree and am too, but right now I cannot replace it. I won't be able to confirm it until I remove the radiator but there is a 75% chance it was purposely damaged. When the engine and radiator is fully cold, and I start the engine, thats when it just pours out about 1/6 to 1/4 of the coolant tank is lost during warm up, but when Its warmed up I only lose tiny amounts, and zero amount if I relieve the system pressure once fully hot.

The Delphi was OE for a few years, but I'm not sure about 95. Some are still available for ~120 on ebay.

That said, for the price point on RA, I would certainly get the Denso if not going with Delphi. I've used Denso radiators on other vehicles with absolutely no problem when OE is no longer available. I wouldn't bother with the Spectra based on personal experience when working on a rush repair for family.

You won't lose much transmission fluid on the repair. A quart on hand will be more than is needed.
