Default coolant light flashing on SL2

My wife's 98 SL2 coolant light has recently started flashing. The levels are fine, no puddle in the driveway to signify a leak and it seems to only happen in the cold or under hard acceleration or very sharp right hand turns.
We're going to get it checked at the next service interval as it doesn't seem to be low on fluid or causing any problems. Just curious if this is a common issue or what it might be. It has 127,000 KM on it and we do every service every 3 months or 5000KM.

Probably the coolant level sensor in the surge tank. You could try cleaning it.

or, the coolant level looks fine, but is in fact a little low - it should be right up to the seam in the bottle (halfway). We used to fill about an inch higher than this, to make sure that customsers wouldn't come back 6 months later with a light sue to slight coolant evaporation.

good idea. When I first looked at it, I just wiggled the cable attached to the jug and the light didn't come on for a few days at all. I guess the sensor is just in the tank right?

Yes. First make sure your coolant level is up there, as Saturn-Eh said. If that's OK, remove the tank from the car (two hoses, one or two screws) and wash it out with automatic dishwasher detergent & hot water.
