Default Bumper replacement

I have been trying to replace or well not replace but acquire a new bumper for an Astra for over a year, mine was stolen. I have had no luck finding no suck part lol. Question is is there anybody out there with an extra bumper willing to sell, or is there any other options to replacing the part from another car, model or anything i could do to cover that up. Car looks horrendous with the Styrofoam just hanging and showing there also feels extremely slow and wastes more gas due to just being flat from the front. Anybody with any references to another post or that could help me would be GREATLY appreciated.

Who would steal a bumper.

www.car-part.com has some bumper covers for sale. They also show a lot of Astras in junkyards that you can pick parts from.

It's not easy to find OEM parts for Saturn cars nowadays. Try to use the classified section of Facebook maybe you'll find one.

I want to wish you all luck finding your replacement bumpers......Just as long as you stay the hell away from mine!!

I was visiting one of my doctors (maintenance visit since I am cancer free for six months) and upon leaving, detached my bumper. As I nosed into the parking spot, I did hear a slight rub from the wheel-stop as I went over it. No big deal, or so I thought.

Even before I put in the 2" lowering setup, I had occasion to experience the same. I must say, for a place in the world like I am in this part of California, where there is absolutely no freeze-thaw-freeze cycle, there is an incredible amount of built in curb and speed bump problems the last 20 years. Its not like the undermined asphalt gives way to the weight of a vehicles tires like in other parts of the country. Instead, it is carelessness built in as the quality of infrastructure declines. When examining the wheel-stop, it was installed canted, somehow three inches higher on one side than the other. I'm kicking myself for not seeing it.

I could get bent out of shape and submit a claim against my specialist's landlord, but I am still pretty buzzed and in the afterglow of continued breathing and kicking around this mortal coil, so it will be me and USAA taking care of things.

The Lesson:

I'm driving a short car and I can afford to not nose into and over the park assist......And my car's ass will still be out less than other cars.

Dang! Our cars are becoming so rare people are stealing body parts!

Have you tried pull-a-part? I don't know what part of the country you are in, but there are two Astras, one in Nashville TN, and one in Montgomery AL.

There's another one in Columbia, SC, and one in Louisville, KY, and one in New Orleans. Is yours 4dr?

You might also consider buying an euro rear bumper from ebay.uk (just use your US ebay login to login in the UK or other euro countries). Some UK sellers are willing to ship to the US.

Same with ebay.de (deutschland) ebay.es (spain), ebay.it (italy) and so on. You can find several used bumpers there. It's like covid, they are everywhere over there.

Consider changing your location in facebook too, change it to somwhere in europe and see if a seller is willing to ship to the US. Some are willing. This is how I've been getting parts from abroad.

If you go with the euro bumper, you'll have one of a kind also. The euro version is better looking, has a wide license plate area (way cooler than the rectangular US version) and side bump mouldings.

Who knows, you may end up converting the whole car to the euro model

One thing to point is that are the Astra European bumpers are not the same as the Saturn ones in the States. The bumpers are slightly shorter and do not protrude out as much as our NHTSA requires.

The rear bumper on this Astra (assuming the 5dr) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EVU4aYhkoCA looks the same as ours, (minus a few key differences of course). However, I haven't measured one up so I can't be 100% sure. One thing that the euro has, is a shorter rear crash bar though.

My crash bar is more protruded than the euro one, so maybe this is where the euro bumper would be a bit shorter? A mod would have to be done to the crash bar in order to fit an opel bumper in such case.

A while ago I was looking for a top of the rear bumper protective strip to go on my XE5. There was one available on eBay from a European Astra. I when I inquired about it I was told it would not fit.

I think the Mexico Chevy Astras do not have the larger bumper facias.

I'm in the process of installing the lower rear bumper spoiler (the one the SRi has) and I noticed that our stinking bumpers are wider as the lip skirt wouldn't completely fit without some modding.

So, you're right that our bumpers are much different. I had to find the hard way!!!

I wish death to the NHTS of nazis! Uglifying good looking foreign cars since the 1950s! Morons!!! lol

So, the question now. If one wants to use a rear euro bumper, all we would need is to replace the crash bar? The rest of the rear quarter panel and back of the car looks the same as the Opel/Vauxhalls. What do you think?

The crash bar would be larger, or more acurately deeper, on the N.A. Astras. This would be underneath the fascia and of course the outer fascia would reflect this. I remember someone sending me a picture the rear bumper and hatch shot of a Vauxhall XE5 to compare it with mine and the difference was readily apparent. Okay, so I would think the quarter and rear panel sheet metal behind the fascia and crash (impact) bar would be the same. I cannot say that everything would bolt right up and all fastening points would be there, or the same.

I used to be in auto body 30 years ago, long before parking sensors and rear view cameras but I do remember that the U.S. cars had energy absorbing materials behind both the front and rear fascias It was either a foam type material or a waffled or honey combed plastic material. These may not be present or may be thinner in Euro model Astras. It is kind of tough to tell. But I do know that the fascias are thicker or longer on the N.A. Astras so that would make them slightly longer than the Euro Astras? Hah, I will have to check the specs between my Saturn Astra and my Opel Astra brochures! They call them prospekts over there.

I don't know if this helps.

I have a pic of the crash bar in my NA Astra, and compared it with an euro one on a video in youtube, and our crash bars are definitively deeper. So, I reckon if one wanted to get a euro rear bumper you'd need this part.

But, it's doable, just a bit cumbersome. I find the euro rear bumpers to be more asthethically pleasing. The area where the tag goes in is also wider and looks much better.

Sorry to the OP, didn't want to hijack your thread, hopefully you found a bumper already.

The 2008 Opel Astra 5 door is listed in specs as 167.3 inches long. The 2008 Saturn Astra is listed as 170.5 inches long. The N.A. Astra is definitely longer and no doubt makes it so from the extended bumpers.
