Default Pop-Up Headlights

I'm sure if anyone here has the headlights that flip up probably have encountered the famous grinding at the end of the cycle.

Just tore down and removed the plastic gear and replaced with a brass one for driver and passenger sides.

Getting ready to install the units but waiting for the epoxy to cure..

Question.. Is there ANY WAY to turn on the parking lights without the headlights having to pop up?

Anyone here perform this mod or might be able to share a how to?

It's funny you ask that, because here in Canada the Daytime running lights are the orange marker lights on first gen SC's.

Although we have a different problem with our popups. The frames rot to dust.
I passed on buying a 96 SC2 because I could not find replacement headlights anywhere I looked. (all same condition in wreckers)

Sad really.. I wish I had your climate here.

When I first got my '96 they'd only pop up when I turned on the headlights, not the parking lights. Now, if I don't twist it quick enough they come up in "park" mode. Rather odd.

Grinding noise at the end of the cycle? Not yet, both work fine. A '95 SC2 I worked on only winks at you though... lol

The proper way to fix a S-Series automatic is to replace it with a 5spd O:)

Thats the trouble. If i just want the parking lights without the headlights they pop up. Meaning the parking lights (yellow lenses) are on but the pop up headlights are just sticking up.

That makes no sense and is a waste on the motor and looks dumb!

Anyone got a way around the lights poping up to have the parking ONLY lights come on with the headlights down in the stored position?

Kinda like what you see in the photo to the left..

once you put the new gears in it should fix that issue. a friend of mine had a firebird and when his gear went for his headlights, the lights would jump up and down any time he set his aftermarket alarm system (which is only connected t the parking lights). once he fixed his gears, it was good

something's not right. the headlamps are not supposed to pop up when you turn on the parking lamps. I had a 92 SC and 96 SC2 and that's how mine worked.

Thanks for your help guys.

You were right.. The gears are back in and ahhhh.. Works perfectly with no sound.

And the parking lights do work as requested.

1. Flip stalk in cockpit past open to parking lights and the doors stay closed.

2. One more turn to lights and they pop up with lights on.

3. Flip all the way closed and she closes smoothly and solidly.

Well worth the $87 and 2.5 manhours..
