There is a piece of metal that holds the gears in alignment. Sometimes this metal bend back and so the gears slip. Removal of the outer panel to get access to this piece is needed. Bend it back so that the gears are aligned. Unfortunately its a tad bit harder to do then to read about how to do it

Go to the How-To Library and check the first post. There is a richpin video on how to get it all back on the track and replace any failed parts.
To find the How-To Library take the forum jump at the bottom of this page. |

also since i could not get that off--i took the inside door panel off because my speaker stopped working--wire came off no big deal--but i stuck my hand through where the power door lock is and there is a metal bar at the top of the door running down -- well that bar is connected at the top and not the bottom--could this be my problem? let me know what you think and i will work on getting this pin out ![]() |

The door handle pin is actually a pin within a pin. You must drive out the inside pin with a small thin tool, or a finishing nail with the point ground off. Just tap it thru till it comes out the back. then you can grab the remaining part with a needle nose pliers.

i think it may be the manual window regulator--i looked at some on ebay and there is a piece of it that makes an x in the middle-well one side of the x is one piece the other side is two--my two part side looks like it is not connected in the middle like it should be, so would this be my problem--here is a link of a regulator off of ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...3AIT&viewitem= the piece that i am talking about are the pieces that connect to the piece labeled 2000 sl1 let me know what you think |

If you are talking about the piece that keeps the regulator in the rail, it's black plastic and it can break. I've replaced a couple. I think they are about $10 from the dealer.

Maybe posting a pic on the regulator might help.
I wish you were here in Portland, because I have one of those black plastic guides I salvaged from my old (electric) window regulator a few weeks back (I would guess these are the same on the manual). The door handle pins cost me 50 cents or so from the dealer. Basically, I tried lubing the inner push pin, but it just didn't come out without the persuasive powers of a needlenose vice grip. One word of advice on popping in or out the ball & socket joints on the regulator guide. Immerse them in some near-boiling water so the plastic is a little more pliable. Clean all the channels and old crappy petroleum-based grease out and relube with some lighweight synthetic grease. I posted a few notes on reinstalling all the bits of am electric window: http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=130433 Might be worth a look. If you want that salvaged regulator guide, email me your address and I'll mail it to you. It would probably take a week to get to you though! Best of luck. |

If any gear is plastic you need a plastic compatible lube. Most of the silicone greases that come in the toothpaste type tube are plastic compatible and will work. It will say so on the tube if it is plastic compatible. Regular petroleum base grease tends to make some plastic brittle.
