Default Rear Windshield Wiper - SC2

It seems that the SC2 Coupes could benefit greatly with a rear windshield wiper. Just wondering if anyone on this forum had the same thought ... and better yet, did something about installing one from another vehicle.

Yeah that could help. You could perhaps maybe attach one to the decklid so it wipes the backlite. Or do what I do and use Rain-X on the glass and drive faster

Ya, I always thought it would be nice to have a rear windshield wiper. Unfortunately, all the cars that have them are hatchbacks. With an actual trunk, there's no where to put it, unless you didn't need the trunk...

Would there be any way to redirect some of the air-flow onto the glass? Seems like a lot of the problem is just the way the car is shaped; all the air gets push out towards the sides.

Maybe some kind of fin might help.

just get one of those uber cheap wings they put on civics and such, that are like a 45deg angle lol. the wind will bounce off so hard it will knock the water off the back window

btw theres a car around where i live (neon) with one on backwards so its at like a -45deg angle so it would actualy lift the car up if he went fast enough lol

I've really never seen a need for a rear wiper on my SC2. As long as I'm moving, the water blows right off. A coat of Rain-X once a year is all it takes. Even without it, the window still stays clear. Other than when I'm not moving, there is seldom enough water on the window to wipe.

I don't know where you'd mount it, either the trunk lid or put a hole in the window. I think it would be a lot of work for little benefit.

I dunno. From what you guys seem to be saying, this looks like a 3rd gen problem. I've got rain-x on my rear windshield and all it does is make the water bead up. No matter how fast I drive, there's just not enough air-flow on the back window to push the water off.

It's a minor annoyance, but one that I have to deal with every morning down in good old humidity saturated South Florida.

Put a big ugly scoop on your roof, with the back of it jutting out over your back window. That should direct some air over your back window...

ive pondered vortex generators on the trailing edge of the roofline (similar to the EVO MR) what they do is they create swirls in the air....and as they swirl back down towards the roof/rear windshield, the vortexes push the boundary layer of air down to keep it in contact with the surface of the car. aircraft use them for the same reason...to prevent boundary layer separation. although, i thought about using them to actually get some airflow to my wing, but clearing the rain from the rear window is a good idea too.

I don't like that Stoner stuff. I had to try it since stupid Crappy Tire stopped carrying the one I liked (Gunk Foaming Window Cleaner). The Stoner stuff left streaks like crazy on the inside, while it was never like that with the Gunk stuff. Wallmart still carries my fave I found out. I don't know how good it is for the tint though. I haven't had to clean the tinted window thoug, just the windsheild.

I don't see what the problem is. On my '99 SC2, I can drive in the rain all day long, and the back glass stays dry, except for a couple litle streams from the roof. It has to be pouring pretty hard before the rain hits the glass, as long as I'm going over about 45 mph.

I've used Rain-X on the back once, a copuple years ago. Didn't really see a need for it. I wash the car after every oil change, and the back glass is consistently the cleanest part of the car.

EVO VIII and EVO IX have rear wipers and a trunk lid. If you look at it, the wiper is mounted to the right side of center (has a center brake light in the center position).

Way too much work to retro fit a rear wiper. Just follow eRic's advice.

The Rain-X and glass cleaner work great, except......

In Michigan, there can be big wet heavy Ďlake-effectí snow storms. The snow piles up faster than the defroster can get rid of it.

...and since Detroiters drive so painfully sloooooooow in the snow (you people in the Rockies can not possibly imagine how slowly) itís possible I canít drive fast enough to remove the snow by wind.

A wiper would really come in handy in slow snow situations...
...although in summer, it would be one more rubber wiper blade out there baking in the sun and taking a deformed set ...where the first dry wipe drags grit over the dry window .

another trick if you have a sunroof is to open it to the "vent" position while you're on the freeway. that creates a vortex to blow the snow off the backlite. and it freaks out the car behind you as a bonus.
