Default Rear windshield wiper -- interesting qurk...

So I noticed that sometimes the rear windshield wiper will be in mid window when I put my car in park and shut off the motor.

After some investigating I noted that this only happens when I have the front wipers on. So here is the answer I found....

If I have the wipers on...when I shift from drive to park the gear shift passes reverse, which causes the wiper to activate! If I shut the motor off fast enough the wiper does not have time to complete it's swipe causing it to stop halfway across the window.

Anyone else notice this? Or any other oddity?

Makes sense to me since it's passing through reverse gear, but I have a manual, so I can't duplicate it for you.

I know the front wipers always complete their swipe, regardless of when you turn the engine off. I found that interesting.

u know how the rear turns on automatically if the front ones are engaged when u put into reverse... well, if you put into reverse and THEN turn on the front wipers, it won't engage the rear one. I have a manual, not sure its the same on auto.

I noticed this over the last few weeks too, but I have a standard. If the front wipers are on and you turn the ignition off, they will always complete their last swipe. The rear blade, OTOH, will stop immediately where ever it happens to be at the time.

Not a big deal, but the sweep-complete feature for the fronts is rather elegant and it's a small shame that the rear doesn't follow suit.

And adammsu is correct about the auto-rear sweep. You have to have the fronts turned on before you engage reverse. I sometimes disappoint myself when it's raining outside and I put the car into reverse and don't get a free auto-rear sweep, but I'm trying to train myself to turn the wipers on first.

So long as the vehicle is turned on the rear blade should do its thing, until you turn it off that is (but a quick twist of the key to reapply power will fix that).
