Shift points for MPG

I'm interested in knowing shift points for maximum mpg. I drive mostly city, light to light. I currently shift at 2100 to 2400 rpms with the air off. I also increase the shiftpoint as I get to the higher gears.

with the air on I shift at 3000rpm




I'm still experimenting with these for economy. But the recent heat wave has had me using the air. Before my best mileage was 34 mpg mostly city.

I'm loving this car so far.

well I'm kind of similar to you. I usually don't change my shift points if i've got the AC on though. But anyway, Ive found that i get the highest mpg when i'm shifting gears at about 2500 RPM's.

use the shift up indicator light that comes in 5-speed manual s-series. that will give you best fuel economy. shift to the next higher gear when the "upshift" indicator light comes on.

Where is this upshift indicator? I've never seen it come on. Is it supposed to turn on when starting like the other idiot lights?

The "shift up indicator" does NOT exist on Canadian made Saturns. I wish we had them but we learn to live without.

Shift somewhere between 2000-2500 for best gas mileage.

my annoying upshift light comes on by about 2500rpm, weather or not i'm going uphill and need the extra power the current gear gives.
where i live it's very hilly so i usually take it to 3k or a little above in most gears becuase shifting sooner seems to take it out of the majority of the powerband.

Well with the a/c on and a church load of people the shift light doesn't really work that well. Especially beyond 30mph. I guess I kinda answered my own question.
