2001 L-Series 2.2L Wagon
Default LW200 oil change

OK guys - this will give you a laugh - my wife's car is a 2001 LW200 (about 78K miles) and today is the first time I'm changing the oil myself! We got the 75K extended warranty on the car so we had the dealer do all the oil changes until now. They're price was always very resonable and they do good work and treat us well - so why not. But they're 35 minutes away and with the price of gas going up, I'm going to do them myself now...

Does the oil filter cap take a metric socket like the drain plug? I used a 15mm on the drain plug. A search of the forums told me that some use a 1-1/4" socket on the filter cap?

Is there a FAQ on all this somewhere?

Oh yeah - what about the o-ring on the cap - doesn't that need to be replaced periodically as well? Every change? Every other change?

I have the V6, and mine has a 1/2 ratched drive hole to turn it. If memory serves me correctly it should be a 14mm. The filter will come with a new O ring. Change it each time.

32mm or 1 1/4" socket to remove the cap. No need to replace the O-ring on the cap unless it's torn; very rare. I lightly lube the tiny rubber O-ring on the new filter, then snap the new filter into the cap, lower the cap and filter onto the housing, and do NOT overtighten!
