Happy 2003 LW200 CD Player

My CD player spits out the CD after insertion. Does this mean my CD player is done and I need a replacement?

That would be the easiest solution. I can't think of anything off the top of my head that might remedy this. If anything, just take it apart and make sure things are clean. I can't remember if the CD detector is electrical or mechanical (i.e. button/lever or laser).

IIRC a lot of the base single disc CD players had this problem and were replaced under warranty years ago.

I guess I will start looking on ebay for a replacement. It would be nice to get one that plays MP3. Do you if the single CD player had this capability? or is it just the 6 CD changer model. Cheers

The L-Series never had any MP3-capable CD players as an option - only the 2004-2005 Ion & Vue did. With a little work you could put one in that is just like the one you put in your Vue a while ago.

As far as mounting goes, it's a perfect fit - no modding required. The wiring would require you to shave two alignment pegs off the OE harness and rearrange the pins to match the new radio. I have access to wiring schematics and could make you a cheat sheet so you know where to move the pins to if you would want to do that. It sounds like alot of work, but it is much easier than it sounds. You won't need to get the radio programmed or anything like you did with the Vue either.

it is a LW200, don't know if that makes a difference. How do you know if it has premium sound? Is there an adapter harness you could buy to plug and play. I am not very good technically at wires but if you can draw it simple enough then maybe I could give it a try. It would be really nice to upgrade my CD player to the Vue standard with MP3. I will need to go on ebay to buy the same unit I did for the Vue. Could you send the wiring modification so I can see level of dificulty. Thanks a bunch.

There is no wire cutting or splicing required for my method. If you later changed you mind, and wanted an aftermarket radio, you'd just need to buy one that is for a 2004-2005 Ion/Vue. Unfortunately, there isn't a harness available to make this a plug & play swap.

You just remove the pins from your car's plug and reinsert them to match the configuration of the new radio. The pins are labeled on the plug (i.e. A1...A12, B1...B12) so that helps alot. The pins can be rearranged. First, remove the retaining clip from the upper and lower portions of the plug. You then insert a small paper clip into the outside holes on the front of the plug to release the locking lab on each pin which allows you to pull it out the back.

Below is a pic of your car's harness. The pegs marked with a red x are the ones you need to shave off. The green lines mark are the holes you'll need to stick the paper clip into to release the pins.

Another thing you could do is buy a harness (Metra p/n 70-2002) to plug your car's harness into and another one to plug into the radio (Metra p/n 71-2102) and just wire them together. This would make the mod reversible if you wanted it to be.

Thanks a lot for the information...I will work on this. Cheers
