1999 SW2
Cool New to forum

Just wanted to say Hi! I love what I've read so far on this site!

I currently have a 99 SW2 with 261,000 miles on it. I purchased it 3 1/2 years ago with 199,000 miles on it for $900. It is my gas saver car. I have a Suburban, but when gas was getting close to $2.00 a gallon (who knew!), I thought the Saturn was a good purchase.

Well this car has more than paid for itself. I consistantly get 35+ miles to a gallon. It is a 5 speed manual. I love the car and it is so easy to drive! The only things I've done to it is an new starter and water pump.

Now my "wrench" light has come on and I am in a dilemna. Should I bring it in to get looked at or just drive it? The SES light used to come on for a while, then go off for a while. Now the wrench light has replaced it.

Any advise will be appreciated.
I don't want to have to look for another car.

Well, it's telling you that something isn't right. Fortunately, that something can't be the autotragic transmission

I would start by making sure all sensor connections are clean and snapped on their terminals, make sure battery cables are clean. Depending on your abilities, some might be too difficult for you.

You can buy a portable scangauge that will read codes for post-96 cars. It will tell you the fault. Scangauge II are $169 on-line, I think.
Next option is to take it to an independent garage to connect their elaborate scanner.
Last desirable option would be take it to a Saturn dealer for the same.

Have you replaced the "ECTS" with a brass one? You should. and make sure its connector is clean.
Have you cleaned the throttle body and butterfly plate? Both sides, please.
Have you cleaned the EGR valve?
Have you cleaned the PCV?

All are easy and there are videos too.

Good luck with your Saturn. GM made a mistake and built these cars too well. Our gain!

The Schofield Kid: Yeah, well, I guess they had it coming.
Will Munny: We all got it coming, kid.

Turn the key to the RUN position... If you see no SES light and only a wrench light, then it looks like your SES light is burnt out which would trigger the wrench light.
I sold my SL2 as of 6/08 :(
