I thought your light went out, meaning the code was cleared? Having a code/light does not change how the car computer (PCM) operates, the PCM sets the light/code based on info it gets from the sensors.

If you need to clear a code or reset a light for testing purposes, it's easier (IMO) to pull the PCM-B fuse for a few seconds from the UHJB (under hood junction box) by the battery.

if you don't have a light anymore, I would look at the thermostat

Miles per gallon would be more useful. The needle on the gas gauge is pretty inaccurate, can be off by a gallon or two. Your SL1 should pul around 38~44 mpg hwy (not knowing how you drive, road conditions and whether auto or manual trans)
