Re: '00 SC1 R.I.P. -- What car would you replace your Saturn with?

Cruze Eco Manual.

10 years after the SL went off the market there is FINALLY a new car for sale again that is fun to drive and honestly gets over 40 mpg on the highway again. Too bad a new one is...

Re: Rust Free S Cradles from West Coast

Guys, its a 2 year old post. Dunno if the OP even lurks here anymore. Decent subframes CAN be found. I got one locally with LCAs for $130 that I found through car-part.com and found a former...

Re: R&R Intake manifold gasket

I've done it and without removing the TB or intake manifold from the engine bay. Just unbolted it and had enough play to get the old gasket out and new one in.

I DID need plenty of patience and...

Re: Having a hard time removing old dogbone bushings...

Years ago when I did the prothanes, I used a jigsaw to cut out the rubber interior, then collapsed the shell to pull it out.

On my current car, I grabbed a couple Gen3 dogbones from a junkyard for...

Re: Best place to buy an upper engine mount?

I have a solid top mount I got from Autozone that was made by DEA (found sticker on the unit itself). The store I bought from had BOTH frowny types and this solid type on the shelf with the same...

Re: Would You Give Up Your Saturn For A Newer One Or Other Make?

Offer me an even trade for a 2013 Accord LX speed manual and see what happens. ;)

Heck, I'll even trade you for a lowly Chevy Cruze 1.4T manual. :D

Re: SOHC head help

Why would you want to take the old cam out of the junk cracked head? Aren't you buying a reman head that comes with cam, valves, springs and lifters all assembled? J&C Enterprises on Ebay sells...

Re: Ghetto Dogbone Upgrade?

As promised, the after action report.

The cheapo fix worked well. I injected all the gaps on the junkyard dogbones (third design units) with latex caulk and let them cure for a couple weeks in my...

Re: Fuel Mileage Past & Now.?

Our bare bones 78 Chevette never topped 32mpg. And it was a 1.6 liter gutless carb wonder with a 4 speed stick, no AC and manual EVERYTHING! I think you guys are remembering wrong.

My 95 still...

Re: Do you oil spray or rust protection your Saturn?

My 18 year old Saturn has been driven nearly every day of its life in Chicagoland or Milwaukee vicinity, which means tons O slat. It rotted away entirely at the engine cradle just this past summer...

Re: Rocker Arm Shaft Bolt Holes Broken...

Oh, man you make me feel much better. I can tell you what happened. You accidentally let the retaining clip get between the rocker shaft itself and the cast aluminum mount that is PRECISELY the...

Re: Ghetto Dogbone Upgrade?

The point of the prothanes is that they reduce slop in the driveline which degrades each shift by stretching and unstretching the system each time. I don't think they do anything to noise levels,...

Re: don't buy a Gates thermostat

LOL, seriously. Our backup car is my wife's 2003 Honda Odyssey with 200,000 miles on it. Still has the factory thermostat, which functions perfectly. Warms up in 5 minutes in winter, still never...

Re: Ghetto Dogbone Upgrade?

Thanks for the reminder, I did the Prothanes once on a previous car and liked it. The boneyard I go to never has wrecks, they are always cars junked by individuals when they find them not worth...

Re: Proud Daddy

You DO see the freight train coming, right? Before, all her car problems were HER problems. From here on out, all her car problems are YOUR fault for highly recommending this one. :D

Ghetto Dogbone Upgrade?

OK, so my dogbones are shot (along with probably 50 other things on this 18 year old car). I scored a couple third gen mounts from the boneyard for $10 and will buy the $35 Prothanes if I need to,...

Re: Struggling with smog - the outcome

I just looked it up and realized that IL no longer tests pre-OBDII cars for emissions. WIN! Good thing too, since I'm up to about a quart every 750 miles of consumption. I'd probably not pass....
