Re: S series junkyard autopsies/who says small cars are unsafe?

O.E. Drive Axles, that are not worn-out, are difficult to get. They are a critical part....as in, “I am going to junk my car if I cannot get good drive axles for it”.
To successfully sell parts, you...

Re: Me and my saturns

Until the experts reply, I would do the following:
1) Replace the “valve body” , which is conveniently located on top of the transmission, because the designers had linear thinking capability.
I am...

Re: Worried engine seized, but hopefully just the Starter

Take comfort in the fact that no one has ever seized a stock S-Series. Usually, the cause is over-revving and eating an exploding valve. Either that, or reaming the cylinder out to the point of...

Re: Noise, help identifying what it is.

Meaning, remove the passenger’s front wheel, fender liner and de-tension the tensioner pulley.
Does the tensioner move smoothly?
You can check how smooth all of the pulley wheels are.

Re: S series junkyard autopsies/who says small cars are unsafe?

I will second that question.

To the O.P., small cars are perfectly safe IF larger vehickels look “down” and notice them.
I have yet to think of a way to increase the visibility of my Saturn,...

Re: Add a Magnet to a Manual Transmission?

So far, I verified that the refrigerator magnet can be “detected” through the casting by a compass.

Re: Add a Magnet to a Manual Transmission?

Ok, I don’t want too be too dense, but...
...what I am concerned with is cancelling the field of the existing refrigerator magnet and causing it to release accumulated metal debris.

Re: Add a Magnet to a Manual Transmission?8:D

I did those things in 2011, when I installed the rebuild kit with brass synchros.
I think the two differential case ball bearings are not holding up.

Re: Add a Magnet to a Manual Transmission?

Normally, I would do that. The drain plug seems too close to the ring gear. Would it magnetize the ring gear?
If the new magnet did magnetize the ring gear, particles would be attracted to it as...

Add a Magnet to a Manual Transmission?

Question: Has anyone added another magnet to their manual transmission?

My MP3 has probably deposited enough debris so that the O.E. flexible refrigerator magnet is holding all that it can hold. ...

It seems like they could be saved.
With the engine mount upside-down in an arbor press, press in the middle and bend the metal that supports the rubber “up”. So that the mount’s welds don’t break...

Today, I installed the 60-1271 axle, after adding more CV grease to the outer and inner boots. Time will tell if that was wise.

Re: House Cleaning - NOS Rear Suspension, SWP Floor Mats, Etc.

If I didn’t already have a spare, I would be all over it. If Saturninin is still roaming the country, he might, for a nominal fee, bring it closer to the Salt Belt area.

Re: S-Series Tips and Tricks

A) 4 lug nuts is not enough. Make the wheels hub-centric. For those who have alloy wheels, this is the best tip:

Re: A/C question

Another endearing feature of the S-Series is that the designers gave us an option to turn “off” the A/C with a push of a button, conveniently located next to the shifter. Linear-thinkers, they were.

Re: 98 Saturn hot white for sale, maybe?

No, not at that price. The car will need some parts and a little work to bring the interior back to 100%. — Well worth the effort to have a car with zero rust anywhere. Safe at any speed, you know ;)

Re: 98 Saturn hot white for sale, maybe?

The hood stripes are a nice touch! They should have been a factory option. Anything to increase visibility, you know.
If I was closer, I’d buy this car as a rust free “spare”.
