Re: Bumper replacement

Who would steal a bumper.

www.car-part.com has some bumper covers for sale. They also show a lot of Astras in junkyards that you can pick parts from.

Re: Alternator replacement

Do you have any photos of that difficult connector? Or could you describe how it is and how to remove it?

I only remember it being very difficult.

Re: I need a 2nd opinion on this Astra

RockAuto has a clearance on some cheap API control arms ($29 each). For the hassle, I would look at GM or ACDelco but those are 3-4x the price..

Whilst you are tearing up the suspension, the tie...

Maybe UK forums have ideas or import from UK via eBay.

Re: Hello! New Astra owner with a couple questions..

Check the emergency brake cable is not binding from internal rust; that happened to mine and killed the left rear pads.

2 of the bolts take a lot of power to remove!

Re: Astra Tuning (wip)

A couple of thoughts to improve oil flow as you tweak performance.

The VVT system seems to run much quieter and cleaner with good full synthetic oil. Goob has 135k miles on his Astra and has only...

Re: Astra 45k mile service - inexpensive & runs like new!

I upgraded the back nut of the rear heat shield. Drilled a hole in the trunk floor, rustproofed, installed a stainless bolt, nut, and big washer. Test drove and found heat shield to be well secured...

Re: Astra 45k mile service - inexpensive & runs like new!

Codes haven't returned and code reader shows "ready". Might still replace flexpipe anyways.

Rear heat shield fell down on top of the muffler and started rattling. The fastening holes just grew...

Re: 08 Astra won't turn over

We don't see many people with relay problems here.

Can you get a code reader and check for codes?

Beyond what is noted by others above, I would begin by fully charging the battery. The battery...

Re: Antenna Dry-rot

Someone in the UK forums recommended a cheap rubber o-ring. It just goes over the antenna so install takes a few seconds. Not 100% sure it fits the US antenna (there were at least 2 different...

Re: Astra 45k mile service - inexpensive & runs like new!

I think the 4 plastic roof rack covers reduce highway wind noise quite a bit. They don't fit 100% perfectly but are a big improvement over the 4 holes. Good enough for this neighborhood.

P2A01...

Re: Astra 45k mile service - inexpensive & runs like new!

Replaced 4 plastic roof rack covers with parts from Latvia for about $12 shipped. ebay seller almets_cnc

60 seconds to install all 4. I think the design is clever with big tabs, so I don't see...

Re: Floormats?

The factory mat hold downs are awesome IMO.
Not sure. This is the parts catalogue for Opel mats. That might help with the search to buy direct.

Re: Floormats?

Indeed the driver and passenger side mats are significantly different in shape.

The woven mats will do a better job of sound insulation than the rubber mats will. The Astra is a noisy car, so I...

Re: Astra 45k mile service - inexpensive & runs like new!

Replaced RH door mirror glass/ heating element/ plastic. That is one part and looks to be good quality overall; the glass is pretty clear and not wavy. Box label stated part was made in Taiwan. Took...

Re: Hello! New Astra owner with a couple questions..

Interesting... I don't think anyone here ever got that clock out of military time format. If you have a dealer update / adjust any firmware, you might look for a former Saturn dealer that he has...

Re: Center Exhaust Section

That was fast.

What did it cost all in?

Do they make these in stainless steel?

Can you coat it to prevent rusting?

I see they also sell the "front pipe" with the flange & flexpipe...

Re: Astra 45k mile service - inexpensive & runs like new!

No idea m8. Better scanners provide Saturn-specific codes & can display data real-time on a x-y graph.

Re: Astra 45k mile service - inexpensive & runs like new!

For diagnosing P2096 the Astra Service Manual (ID 2006061) steps are linked above. Below summarizes most of the testing I did tonight:

1. Closed loop with engine warmed up shows no obvious clues...

Re: Astra 45k mile service - inexpensive & runs like new!

I use the ScanGauge2. That is just for monitoring and not diagnosing. It was great 10 years ago but there are better items now.

Re: Astra 45k mile service - inexpensive & runs like new!

Last night, P2096 popped up 1 minute after filling with gas at truck stop, on a brutally cold and windy night. I cleared the code and it hasn't returned for a few hundred miles (car is back to closed...

Re: Center Exhaust Section

If you have a nearby custom muffler shop they might have something off the rack that they can adapt.

Another alternative is to buy used from a junkyard. Special Way in Detroit (313-279-7700) has...
