Re: Does DEX-Cool eat head gaskets?

219,000 miles on my SL, 2nd batch of DexCool. Only thing I ever replaced was the water pump. That was 63,000 miles ago.

Re: Question about 2001 SL1 exhaust system

You're running into trouble because it's an OBD II SOHC. Good luck finding an aftermarket part. If you were driving an SL2, it'd be no problem: the Internet is silly with 'em. Since most people here...

Re: Strange, consistent loss of power only when cold

No on the platinum plugs: have always used NGK V-powers.

Not sure about the exhaust: I'll have to check. Interesting point, however, since I have the original cat, and it's been rattling for the...

Re: Strange, consistent loss of power only when cold

Yes, it does start to stall upon acceleration. There have been two or three occasions where the idle dropped upon coming to a stop, but it picked right up again and leveled out. It starts up just...

Strange, consistent loss of power only when cold

I have a 7-month old baby boy at home, and it's still plenty-cold-February here in Chicago, so I'm hoping someone can give me a shortcut on the way to troubleshooting this problem.

Short history:...

Re: My Mechanic Says, "Use 20W-50 Oil"

I've been running either Mobil1 0w-40, Delvac1 5w-40, Redline 5w-40, Redline 10w-40, Amsoil 10w-40, or Mobil1 15w-50 for most of my '99 SL's 206,000 miles in all modes of Chicago weather with no...

Re: My Mechanic Says, "Use 20W-50 Oil"

Doesn't matter. Want to use 20w-50, suffer (likely slightly) lower MPG and sluggish engine performance, but add less oil between changes, do that. Want to use 5w-30, have better MPG and more...

Re: $$$ Money $$$ Question

That, and all others I've been able to scrounge up on the 'net, is for a DOHC. You won't find anything listed for an SOHC. Email responses from several sellers claim that you can't use the DOHC part...

Re: New Engine Mount, what's this gonna cost me?

Interesting. I just replaced that trans mount as well as the "dog bones," and they seemed identical to OEM. I haven't looked at the aftermarket upper-right mount, however, so you could be right.

Re: New Engine Mount, what's this gonna cost me?

The AutoZone in my part of town sells the part manufactured by Anchor. I thought Anchor made the OEM mounts, and that they were identical to OEM. Am I missing something here?

I would like to replace the engine and transmission mounts on my '99 since it has 204,000 miles with all but one original. The one I replaced (with the new style) is the top on the passenger side --...

Is the 2.2 L the cartridge-style filter? If so, isn't Fram the only available aftermarket filter? If that's the case, it's no surprise the OEM and aftermarket versions are the same: why would Fram...
