Where to find rebuilt engines?

I have a 99 SL2, 160K miles, and I've had a bad ring for awhile now, and it's burning more and more smoke now. Did the compression test, and I don't remember the number, but it was below 100.

Question Did MMO soak and have more white smoke than before?

I have a 99 SL2 and last weekend I did the MMO soak. I started it Friday night, and ended up being dragged to a wedding Saturday, so the MMO actually sat for about 24 hours. Put the rags in,...

Re: Which EGR passageway should I clean?

I changed the plugs this weekend, the wires about a year and a half ago. I do have a worn/stuck compression seal. Don't have the $1500 to fix the heads now so been watching oil consumption. Plan...

Wrench Which EGR passageway should I clean?

I read on a post here once before, though can't find it now, that you should keep debris out of one of the EGR passageways/tubes.

I've had a lot of rough idle lately and I cleaned the EGR valve,...

Re: How long can I drive with a coke can gasket under my EGR valve?

Going to sound stupid, but any coins, or dimes (since they're thinner than nickles/quarters).

Re: How long can I drive with a coke can gasket under my EGR valve?

No, we don't have one here. I cleaned the pintle last night. I had cleaned it before, but never realized how to clean it thoroughly until reading about 40 posts on the topics here. It still...

Re: How long can I drive with a coke can gasket under my EGR valve?

Ok, thanks. I normally drive about 15-20 miles a day, so a week is perfect really. I cleaned the pintle once this weekend actually, and then today this happened. I hope I didn't mess it up when I...

Question How long can I drive with a coke can gasket under my EGR valve?

I have a 99 SL2, 160k miles on it. Today after filling up, it started lurching and when I went below 1500 RPM the engine really bucked and eventually died. I had to put the car in neutral and keep...

99 SL2 Rack and Pinion question

I took my car in last week to get inspected, and it passed inspection, but they told me at the same time that I had a small leak in my rack and pinion.

I don't know a lot about cars, so not sure...

Question door/lock actuator replacement... how to?

I have a 99 SL2, and for awhile now, when I press either unlock/lock button on the door, it doesn't "spring" out, so the lock just keeps clicking. I was told that when that happens, it's usually...

Question Circuit board on top of transmission needs replaced??

I took my car into the shop for my transmission slamming when shifting gears. They told me it is the valve body, but they're going to use a refurbed one.

But they also said that they wanted to...

Codes P1624, P0748, P1584 ?

I took my car to the transmission shop yesterday, and I just called and these are the codes that came up. Anyone know what they are? I know that P1624 is a 'snapshot', but don't know what it means.

Re: Shop says I need new Valve body, torque converter, and overhaul.... do I?

The only reason they gave was "If the valve body is bad, then everything else in there is bad as well." They never mentioned the PC solenoid.
And yes, it does slam into all gears. How much does it...

Question Shop says I need new Valve body, torque converter, and overhaul.... do I?

But I'm wondering if I can just try to replace the valve body first. The guy said to do all the above will be about $2300, but if I wanted just the valve body replaced, it'd only be about $600.

I...

It's an aftermarket dogbone since I was stupid and forgot to get the part when I was at the dealership. And my car was in an accident, but a long time ago. But yes, it looks as if the bolt is going...

I replaced my upper transmission mount (the dogbone), and I saw that the required torque is 37 ft/lb. The question I have is how far do you have to screw in the bolt to get there? The bolt head is...

Re: Confused on how to change transmission fluid for auto tran Sl2

And would 10,000 miles be good to change it again with the better stuff, or should I do it sooner?

And it's fine to just pour out the old fluid, and add the new fluid with the Lucas treatment?

I'm going to change the...
