Re: AC compressor model number

Yes it matters. On my former 2001 SL1 the first compressor bought wouldn't allow me to reinstall the air injection system that sits above it. Only certain compressors will work for the 1999-2002 S...

Re: No power to wheels

Oh wow. They usually snap in the center of the axle shaft between the outer and inner CV joint. Some have a rubber cylinder (damper) there while others do not. Rust seeps in under the damper and...

Re: S series junkyard autopsies/who says small cars are unsafe?

In it's early stages you can perform a procedure called wolfman's reverse slam cure. It's basically changing the fluid and filter, securing the car and putting it in reverse and letting it sit for...

Re: S series junkyard autopsies/who says small cars are unsafe?

In the S Series when the transmission service schedule is not followed the valve body ports get sludge which causes a hard shift that is most prominent in reverse at the onset. If left too long then...

Re: and so it begins....

That's a tall order. There are not too many of these running the roads around here for the same reason. I haven't seen one advertised for months.

Re: and so it begins....

It's the metal or lack of metal fore and aft that is creeping in on these mounts that is the issue. I can poke holes through it with a screw driver.

Re: and so it begins....

Well the fate of the 99 SL2 is not looking good. The trailing arm mounts are pretty bad and I don't have the skill set to fix this. There's not too many people around anymore that want to deal with...

Re: Outer door handle pins? '96 SW2

Small zip tie to "tie" you over until you can get a proper pin. The FLAPS usually have an assorted pins bin where you can purchase just one. If you are buying other stuff they usually just give it...

Re: 2000 Saturn SL2 cruise control installation

I've mentioned this before; the PCM, BCM and Security Module (ignition) are "married" to one another. You can only change one at a time; you need the other 2 to enable the one being swapped in.

Re: What did you do to your S-Series today...

Get the exhaust hanger fixed as it will stress your mid-pipe and it will eventually crack. An exhaust shop will weld a new one on in a few minutes. I wouldn't be surprised if they sent you out the...

Re: Economy ? Seriously ?

For GEN3 your gauge should read like the photo below. There are 3 different temp gauge calibrations which changed with the generations...

Re: and so it begins....

The A/C on the 99 SL2 was on it's way out. The compressor was still running but the cooling was marginal. I thought I saw a leak at the compressor when I looked with black light however I'm told...

Re: How did you get involved with Saturn

In the spring of 1992 (my mid 20's) I had an accident that totaled out my 3 year old Plymouth Sundance which I had purchased new. I was on the hunt for a replacement and happened upon the new Saturn...

Re: Economy ? Seriously ?

What does your temp gauge sit at when it is fully warmed up?

Some of the common sources of poor fuel mileage relates to the reported coolant temperature at the PCM. It causes the PCM to push more...

Re: Log Books

Yep, I do this both manually like stated and electronically using an App. Someone stole the log book out of on of my vehicles several years ago and I did not have a backup. This is why I started...

Re: 2000 Saturn SL2 cruise control installation

As I understand it the PCM just needs a 30 minute relearn to be swapped in and that is it. I would do one, get it up and running and then do the other. You can't do both PCM and BCM at the same...

Re: Fake Bumblebee?

One could use compnine.com or another like service to lookup the RPO codes and there should be one to identify the special edition package. I don't know of any free services anymore to do this.

Re: Interchangeability of parts

I've managed to sneak a regular one in there by lubing it up with some axle grease.

Re: S-Series Tips and Tricks

I stuff a wad of paper towel between the battery and the rails for easy access when checking my oil. I discovered that is stays dry through all weather by accident. On a windy day I stuffed some...

Re: 1997 SOHC Manual PCM into 1996 SL1 Auto for Trans Swap Clarification

The 97 probably does have different programming (incremental change from model year to model year) however I don't think it would affect much in the manual transmission configuration. If the wire...

Re: 2000 Saturn SL2 cruise control installation

I don't know much about PCM's and part numbers but I would think that if you grabbed the PCM from the same car you grabbed the BCM from that you would be matched.

From what I can gather from the...

Re: 2000 Saturn SL2 cruise control installation

I seem to recall that you can only change one out at a time otherwise you will need a full reprogram. So change the BCM and get it paired and working then change the PCM and get it paired. If you...

Re: 2000 Saturn SL2 cruise control installation

Here's what we know about enabling cruise control from past history (see quotes below). For the most part the shop needs the correct equipment (older tech2 or newer with red bidirectional connector)...
