Re: Best wheel bearing brand?

I bought a Moog (used to be a good name for parts) for a Cadillac. Turned out to be the same dirtbag China part you can but for 60% less, but in a Moog box.

Re: Prestine 2003 Quad coupe with cvt-swap from mechanically perfect 04 sedan manual

It sounds like a decent plan, but realize you will put a lot of labor into this and wind up with a 19 year old car that the market isn't going to value much.

If the value is significant for you,...

Re: Ion 3 quad coupe trans.

There are a lot of possible interchange candidates from the GM family.
Cavalier, Cobalt, Pontiac G6, even some Saabs. Are we talking manual or automatic trans here? And what year Ion do you have?

Re: 2004 Saturn Ion Sedan-Compression test results VERY surprised

Those numbers do seem high but since you used two gauges it's likely correct. I think 190 is a more typical value.

Re: Ion 3 quad coupe trans.

No. The first gen Saturns use a Saturn specific trans.
The Ions use GM corporate transmissions.

Re: New catalytic converter, getting P0420

I'm surprised that somebody is selling converters that perform so poorly that they throw codes brand new. But it sure sounds like you got one. I wouldn't be shy about checking with tech support (if...

Re: Slight Tick.

If you can schedule the downtime, the safest approach is a timing chain and guides replacement. Then you're probably good to go to 300,000 miles.

Re: How to drain battery/tire area

I'm not sure what the "drain plug" looks like, the Ion I bought is now 40 miles away with my grandson.

But if needed, I wouldn't worry about drilling a hole and sealing it afterwards with a...

Can you get a scan tool and see what your fuel trims look like?

Re: Buying a used Ion

I use the Blue Driver which can read air bag and abs codes in addition to the Pcodes for the drivetrain. They also maintain a database from their users which gives you a list of possible fixes...

Re: Buying a used Ion

I'd think in North Carolina, rust shouldn't be much of an issue.

Parts that might need work in the future: front struts, stabilizer bar links, rear shocks, rear springs, clutch assy. None of...

Re: Buying a used Ion

One owner cars with high miles tend to reflect good maintenance.
I always ask why they're selling, sometimes you even get a straight answer. Sometimes even a list of parts that have been replaced....

Re: 06 Ion 2.2 P0442 small evap leak driving me crazy

Yeah I'm back to chasing this again also.
I've gone over the plumbing from tank filler neck to canister to engine and don't see any visual problem. Tightened all clamps.
Replaced the cap and the...

Re: 2006 Saturn Vue AWD Rear Differential Mount Bracket

I'm not familiar with this part but it looks like an aluminum casting?

So perhaps it could be weld repaired. If you can find a good shop take some pictures of the installation, maybe they can add...

Re: Saturn Specialist in Los Angeles/Southern California Area? - ECM Reprogramming

I'd also say by the time the Ion came out, the engine/trans/emissions system was common with a lot of GM cars. Anybody who can work on a Chevy Cobalt can work on an Ion.

Re: Occasional P0172 (too rich) ... suggestions?

Since I don't have regular access to the car to do sequential troubleshooting, I went ahead and changed both the gas cap and the solenoid. So far, so good.

Re: Engine head replacement 07 ion 2.2

I've had good luck with KBS brush on high temp coating on cast iron manifolds.
The cleaner the better...if you can get it bead blasted that's a good prep.

Re: Exhaust/intake valve brands

I'd be comfortable with Melling parts.
Brands from China or India are likely cheap but quality is difficult to judge.

Re: Should I junk my '08 Astra?

If your chassis is not corroded, I'd say do the repairs.
That would be my biggest factor for the decision.

Re: People demanding a return of Saturns

The Saturn era was a strange time in GM, it started out with some independence and different thinking, had a lot of envy from other parts of the organization because Saturn got a lot of nice shiny...

Re: Occasional P0172 (too rich) ... suggestions?

This is looking like a vacuum leak with occasional P0442s so we'll look at the fuel tank cap and evap canister solenoid valve and see if the P0172 goes away too.

Re: Finally got delivery of my Used Saturn

The engine (Ecotec 2.2) and trans (4T40) are some of the highest volume units built by GM and suspension are mostly common with GM models like the Cobalt and HHR. There may be some Saturn specific...

Thanks. Will update with data in the future...my daughter has the car now and it's 40 miles distant.
