When we replaced the water pump in the SL, my father-in-law tied the gasket in place with sewing thread, as it would eventually disintegrate after once it was installed.

Your mileage may vary.

Did my tire change over and about two weeks before that, finally managed to correct the driver's side stabilizer bar bushing. I didn't realize how badly it was affecting everything else in the front...
