Re: Dorman shifter cable bushing

Well it's made it to work twice and home once, and it's working well. The shifting is much smoother than before so that's a plus.

Finger's crossed it will last another 150K miles.

Re: Can I swap a sl1 engine into a sl2 car?

They're the same year, so the suspension parts would definitely interchange. I don't know what would be involved with the engine swap since you'd be changing a DOHC engine to a SOHC. I would...

Thumbs Up Re: Dorman shifter cable bushing

If anyone is interested, I epoxied the retaining ring in, and it seems to be operating just fine. Back on the road and hopefully I can get more than 2 weeks without having to work on it again. :)

Re: Dorman shifter cable bushing

No, you misunderstand, I don't want to JB Weld the bushing to the shifter, I want to JB Weld the retaining ring to the bushing.

This is the bushing...

Dorman shifter cable bushing

So it's been a heck of a month for me with Saturns. I swapped the head on my 01 SC2 back on the 1st, dealt with the odds and such that cropped up with that. Then yesterday I was about to leave...

Re: Possible coolant leak?

This is the first time I've put some in, but I'm going to remember them.

My P0440 turned out to be easy, the gas cap gasket was crumbling and had more cracks than a nuthouse.

Re: Possible coolant leak?

2 tablets of Bar's Leak OEM and a week of driving and I'm cautiously optimistic that we have that cured. I checked it when I got gas at lunch and I see no signs of seepage and the coolant tank is...

Re: Possible coolant leak?

I picked up the tablets tonight on the way home. I'm going to put them in tomorrow before I drive to work. That should give them a nice long time to get dissolved and do their job.

Re: Possible coolant leak?

This is an excellent point, and I was not aware of it. The head got a bath and a valve job so any sealant that might have been in it is long gone.

Why are the tablets preferred over the other...

Re: Possible coolant leak?

Well I'm pretty sure it's seeping between the head and the block. The edge of the top face of the block I can see behind the exhaust manifold is damp when I check it in the morning. I have seen...

Possible coolant leak?

I checked my oil at lunch and it's clear, but I noticed some dampness along the seam of the head. It doesn't smell like anti-freeze, but honestly my nose isn't great.

I've been looking around...

Thanks! That gives me the all-important bolt torque order.

Re: Preparing to swap heads

I have read it several times here on Saturnfans, but I haven't copied it off yet. I will make sure I have a copy of it before we start.

Re: Preparing to swap heads

Thanks ultra. I just got word back from the machinist that the head is in good shape, just needs surfacing and a valve grind. Rock Auto had Felpro gaskets on sale, so those are ordered. Just need...

Preparing to swap heads

Well I have a head off a 2000 SL2 at the machine shop getting checked out. Hopefully it just needs a bath and will be good to go. While it's there I have been thinking about what else I need to do...

Re: 2002 SL2 HELP! What is this line.. Its Broke..

Mine did the same thing. I just used a piece of vacuum hose to splice it. It's been like that for about 8 years now and it's been fine.

Re: 99-02 Engine head egr passage

Ok, answered my own question. Square ports are used with the metal intake, the round use a plastic intake.

99-02 Engine head egr passage

I'm shopping for a new cylinder head and one site lists 2 types of 1.9L DOHC for 99-02. One type has a round EGR port and the other has a square port.

So how do I know what I need, or is the...

Re: Polishing a faded Saturn emblem?

Having worked in a body shop I can say there's not really a good way to restore a sun fade. I would hit eBay for a NOS emblem and just replace it if you want it to look new.

Re: What's next? Misfire on cylinder 2 - no compression

Great tip on the fuel injector, I will do that. Providing I can avoid it I'm not pulling the whole engine or messing with the transmission. I wouldn't mind less RPM cruising home, but 3100 RPM...

Re: What's next? Misfire on cylinder 2 - no compression

No not really. Runs down the interstate at 75 at the same RPM as before. Gas mileage is a little off, but not excessively so.

Re: What's next? Misfire on cylinder 2 - no compression

It's my commuter car, so if it's down I'm taking time off, unless I can arrange for work-from-home, so I would prefer minimal downtime.

Re: What's next? Misfire on cylinder 2 - no compression

Looks like you had quite the project. I'm south a bit and west of Illinois about 700 miles (NE).

If the other Bill is right and it's the cylinder head I can handle that, probably.

Re: What's next? Misfire on cylinder 2 - no compression

After thinking more about it, I think you're probably right. Unless the compression rings are completely gone, it would register some pressure on the gauge (if they were that far gone I think I...
