Re: Haynes manual?

From my experience, Haynes is not especially useful if you intend to do much beyond oil and filter changes.

But at least the ink does not smear too bad if used as such :dizzy:

Re: Even today's engines have oil consumption problems

High RPMs increase oil consumption.
Engine braking increases oil consumption.
Leaks, out-of-spec PCV valves, increase consumption.
Higher operating temps will like increase consumption.

Re: Car Overheating 01 swp

Did I read correctly that it mainly only overheats when in stop-and-go driving as a letter carrier often does? It sounds like the fan is coming on - but perhaps late. Wonder if the fan, its circuit...

Re: Somebody stole my lugnut covers!

Many years ago I lived in El Cajon, CA, for a while. There was a store, Chucks Used Hub Caps. They had a bumper sticker as well: "Chucks Used Hub Caps - We cover your nuts!"

Re: Running rich but no CEL?

Not familiar with the situation in Canada, but at least in the non-California parts of the US, the '95 was OBDI, and would not set a CEL for many emissions-related issues; e.g., it did not check to...

Re: Evacuating the A/C

If you cannot find a loaner, Harbor Freight, among others, sell them. Adequate for occasional use. As noted above you want to get out both air and mositure.

I once charged an R12 system (after...

Re: why are s series ac so bad?

The question is what is the BTU/Hr rating of the several A/C systems mentioned at normal RPM adn idle RPM?

A second question is the condition of the seals, doros, and air path in the HVAC air...

Re: Major mileage drop

Maybe is ther best anyone can say without knowing why your MPG is lower than expected.

A bad (open) t-stat results in slow an engine warm up and operation below design temperatures, which usually...

Re: Major mileage drop

The back O2 sensor (after the CAT CON) does not effect MPG, it only senses whether or not the CAT CON is operating at specified efficiency.

The O2 sensor in the manifold does effect fuel economy....

Re: Major mileage drop

Once you have reliably calculated your MPG, some common issues for drop in MPG:
- Driving conditions and driving style.
- Stuck-open t-stat (and with that slow/weak cabin heat).
- Bad ECTS (temp...

Re: oil leak question

Check the oil drain plug too. Significant leaks that are not burned should eventually appear on the outside of the engine somewhere.

Oil on the spark plug boots in the plug wells is likely a...

Re: '00 SC1 R.I.P. -- What car would you replace your Saturn with?

If the Satty has to go, a Subaru Outback. A very different vehicle but it has a loyal following, good reliability, and reasonable MPG for a larger vehicle. The AWD and high ground clearance is a...

Re: T-stat questions, 99 SL2

On the '96 and newer the fan should come on somewhat before the gauge reaches the 3/4 mark.

Expect the temp gauge to stay at abotu 3/8 scale on the open road (generally above 30 mph). It will...

Re: Strange Electrical Issue

P0341 - camshaft position sensor circuit range/performance error.

P1402 - EGR pintle position error.

They sound more like byproducts or results of the electrical issue, not causes of it.
