Re: Worried engine seized, but hopefully just the Starter

You don't swap the bolts for a stud and nut? Odd. Same thread/size as the intake manifold; then you just hang it on the studs.

Re: Need a new radiator

I'd either go with Silla or whatever national chain FLAPS is nearby that has one in stock with a lifetime warranty. If the nearby one has a radiator in stock then likely whatever one you come across...

Re: Need a new radiator

$110 for an all-aluminum, manual trans (or add a dedicated trans cooler): https://www.ebay.com/itm/124588936602

Otherwise I believe Delphi and Silla are the best brands to get with Silla being...

Re: No power to wheels

I knew it had to be something odd, but I'd have expected a noticeable noise when it let go. Maybe the radio volume or attention span let you miss it, maybe it just didn't make a noise.

Too bad...

Re: Central locking -how to proceed attempting to diagnose and fix

Central locks? Central locking? I think you're part of the inspiration to the Flat Clicker video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IoJT68FEXl0) LOL

Power locks is what you want to look for. If the...

Re: Rear Tire Wear

Camber & toe in the rear, just like the front. Pretty sure the caster is locked in without either bent struts or drilled strut mount bolt-holes.

Re: Noise, help identifying what it is.

I believe it wants 25-30psi minimum oil pressure while the idiot light turns off when it sees 7 psi. Too low of oil pressure wouldn't fully pressurize the hydraulic lifters which would lead to valve...

Re: Noise, help identifying what it is.

I'd blame something belt driven and focus on the tensioner and idler pulleys. IIRC the belt shouldn't deflect more than 1/2" with 7lbs of force.

Probably wouldn't hurt to get an oil pressure gauge...

Re: S series junkyard autopsies/who says small cars are unsafe?

Hold the RPM's to about 3500 and quickly release the clutch while holding the shift lever in 1st does it pretty quick. Or you keep the tires spinning while migrating from dirt/gravel/ice/snow to bare...

Re: 97 SL1. Any advice on how to get the pressure line back on the power steering pum

If the fitting on the hose is stripped then yes, you have to replace the line (if there was enough slack in the line the fitting could be replaced for $5-$10).

The picture in your first post with...

Re: 97 SL1. Any advice on how to get the pressure line back on the power steering pum

Similar issue to brake line fittings. You either get the angle correct or it doesn't go together. If you're unlucky it strips out the hole or the fitting as well.

Try using 1 hand to hold the line...

Re: S series junkyard autopsies/who says small cars are unsafe?

3 main reasons for the S-Series to be in a JY: Didn't add oil soon enough; it has an automatic transmission or the manual trans has a hole in it.

Re: Rear disc conversion

Gotta pull the rear carpet towards the front seats to gain access to where they come into the body and where they attach to the load balancer on the p-brake handle. I don't think the center console...

Re: Rear disc conversion

GM used a ratcheting rear caliper piston and ratcheting p-brake. Both seize up due to the elements fairly often no matter how much its used.

All you're going to find, brand new, are rotors, pads...

Re: Rear disc conversion

Kits? Never seen one. Not worth the effort anyway.

P-brake cables ($25ish each), calipers, caliper brackets ($80ish each with calipers) and (if your current knuckles don't have the mounting...

Re: If Jay Leno Adds A Saturn to His Collection?

This list of his collection seems accurate to April of this year. I didn't see any Saturn's on it, but it does say he frequently buys/sells cars from the collection so it's plausible there used to be...

Re: Car won't unlock with the door switches

It's easier to program 3rd gen key fobs than 2nd gen. You just hand over whatever fee the locksmith/dealer wants for programming the fob and they do it for you. Doesn't get easier than that.

As...

Re: Add a Magnet to a Manual Transmission?

The magnet ought to be marked N and S, S goes on the thing you're sticking the magnet to so N can draw in stuff to stick to it.

It's probably unmarked, I'd drop it on something and the side that...

Re: 97 sl2 need to tow steering locked

If you need to be able to steer it I'd take the shroud around the column off (5.5mm thin wall socket if you care about the shroud) and cut the column lock out of the lock cylinder module.

If you...

Re: Saturn s series Plug-in Jensen USB Bluetooth any good

Not too hard to install, 2 push pin things on either side of the radio then the trim comes off (careful not to push the center pin too far and careful of the fog/defrost/trac buttons up top).

Cost me $100 to have a '97 SC2 fender changed from a silly blue to the correct forest green. Fender itself was super expensive...$15.

Re: 97 Saturn Sc2 rev limiter

The 4200rpm limiter is only set under 5mph...if the VSS isn't sending it's signal to the PCM doesn't think you're moving. There are ways to fake a speed signal but getting the VSS working is far...

Re: What size nuts on booster and m/c?

The nuts that hold the MC to the booster should be 15mm hex.

Less sure of the line nut sizes, I believe 10mm and if there's a funky one it should 12mm.

The lines and nuts should be for 1/4in...

Re: 2002 DOHC SL2 cylinder head bolt removal question

I'd try a 3/8 drive short socket and an extension with a wobble (https://www.harborfreight.com/3-piece-3-8-eighth-inch-drive-impact-wobble-socket-extension-set-67065.html).

FSM shows pulling the...
