Re: I need a 2nd opinion on this Astra

These little cars handle quite well with newer suspension bits.

I installed those same numbered front struts. I also installed rear shocks 93182103, which seem to match perfectly in height and...

Re: I need a 2nd opinion on this Astra

Not my experience with the XE or XR.

You can recycle the rubber boots and bungs.

The front coil springs break on occasion. The breaks I have seen look like a hairline paint chip near the ends...

Re: gm dealer can't program a new key, what now?

Someone here just got some keys made. Search the threads.

This was a more extensive programming exercise

Re: I need a 2nd opinion on this Astra

Looks great.

I think someone here used different Saturn alloy wheels that looked good. Maybe the Saturn Aura? They were cheap. Search the forums for that alternative.

Re: I need a 2nd opinion on this Astra

The paint below the headlights seems to fail on all these Astras. I think the top of the front bumper did not have enough paint from the factory. Now you have a cool, fairly reliable car sorted out. ...

Re: The last Saturn Astra owner.

I'm not too worried about getting parts to be frank. Might take a few extra days so keep that in mind.

- Dealers and rockauto have a lot of parts easily ordered.

- car-part.com shows a bunch of...

Re: The last Saturn Astra owner.

Stash (first two are in car for emergency)

- Used but decent Delco coil pack
- Used accessory belt
- Used accessory tensioner

Re: Low System Voltage

Are you reading the voltages with a DMM under the hood? Or using the secret menu on the interior screen?

Re: Oil in spark plug well

We had a couple of oil soaked spark plug tops from valve cover gasket also.

We also cleaned up the oily coil pack thoroughly (the 4 rubber ends were removable on our coil pack).

We removed...

Re: Removing seat

Maybe this Euro parts site gets you started.

https://opel.7zap.com/en/car/a04/c/22/1-3/

I would source the parts from GM, as lower quality bolts may not perform properly when you need them.

Re: Pulled the interior door latch too hard.

Euro door part numbers are here. The US numbers might be the same or easier to cross reference.

OT - when I removed the interior door panel, a few plastic...

Re: The last Saturn Astra owner.

Maybe original owner dumped the Fiat for the same problems. Regardless, losing the coolant like that can't be great for the engine.

Why not keep the SL2 until you find another Astra!

Re: Does this simple key-programming method work to add a 2nd key?

I might try that easy procedure you linked from markslocksmith . It is similar for programming a duplicate key on our Buick.

If that does not work I'm not sure it is super easy. A lot of the...

Re: The last Saturn Astra owner.

The Astra radiator for the Auto transmission cars is a disaster. It tends to blend transmission oil and coolant.

I don't recall seeing cooling issues with the manual transmission Astra. At that...

Re: Front Struts and hardware availability issues

Goob installed the Bilstein B3 (38-163531) rear springs on his Astra.

Passenger's stock OEM rear spring was snapped at the bottom, with about a 2" section detached; that was easy to see. Driver's...

Re: Replacement Seat Cover for an XE

Looking at the dealer link above, it seems all XE and some XR come without map pockets.

Regardless, the two colors are pretty close so if you get the wrong seat cover it won't be the end of the...

Re: PCV Valve

You might also order a valve cover gasket while you have the valve cover off; it also is a popular failure item. Get a very high quality one, please.

Re: Replacement Seat Cover for an XE

I think 13217292 shows code PHQ and shows "Silver Charcoal"; both indicate that is for the XR, unfortunately.

I suspect you need the code PFM showing "Charcoal" for the XE. Maybe this helps

That wiring loom on the top left of the cover might go to the exhaust cam actuator solenoid. But I think there are more wires to another sensor also. I can't confirm right now.
