Re: 1999 SW2 Won't START 75,867 miles

Good that the issues were rectified.

I suspect that it was the Exhaust manifold which was all clogged up.

Happy Motoring !

Re: Intermittent long crank times when cold?

Interesting as symptom of defective fuel pressure regulator.

Replacing the fuel pressure regulator on my '97 (after a pressure gauge
gave good indications as vacuum was varied) was one of best...

Re: Wasp nest behind mirror…

I've not had that experience in some time - the insects are having a rough
time surviving in my developed area: The cicada/locust events are no longer a thing on Long Island, NY.

My experience...

I'd be interested in what you suggest might be the better item(s)
to buy from the current market.

Re: 2002 Saturn SC1 coupe has 0442 code

Both my '97 and 2000 cars profited by installation of new gas caps.

Suggest pay $11-Stant vs $-6Stant.

Re: 1999 SW2 Key fob / transmitter

> does the key itself have anything to do with the programming process?

Not on models 97--2000 'S' series: the key is just a dumb mechanical instrument. The best keys are made by a locksmith with...

Re: 1997 SW2 Crank but no start, stuck on wiring.

I dunno about the wiring...
Concerning grounds:
It Might be worth loosening and then re-torqueing the bottom screws
on the IgControl module, since they ground the coils thru the fasteners.
The...

Re: Trailer hitch installation - remove exhaust?

Thank you hholbein.
I may try that at some point. Presumably i had misfortune of finding
a hitch of poor design....
Always a good thing to find competitive solutions !

Re: no-start issue; fuel prime/bleed?

About a tablespoon of MarvelMO in each cylinder (to counter effects
of Throttle-Body-Cleaner/Scoring) ... took about 48 hours to seep off
the cylinder tops, presumably dissolving sundry deposits...

Re: chime box

My '97 SW had a chime module.

My 2000SW has similar chime functionality (but I do
not recall whether there is a similar module, although
I think it does).

I believe the PCM extinguishes the...

Re: KYB Rear Strut Mount, Counterfeit? P/N SM5079

I have yet to mess with any Saturn struts (ready to renew some).

Twice I rebuilt VW rabbit struts - new springs, mounts, shocks.
All that kit was steel excepting dust bellows.

and a bit of debris that my efforts created ... thinking a valve might
be open, allowing solvent into cylinder with debris might...

(engine had been driven to inspection station, and were talking
for a bit) and, it (the exhaust stream)...

Re: brake troubleshooting

@ John Head

Mostly my Saturn brakes are faultless. However, I began to notice
some issues with one of my cars (forget which).

Upon inspection of the caliper-to-caliper bracket surfaces, it...

That Draw-Tite hitch looks pretty useful.

15 years ago I saw a hitch -- made to attach to the spare tire well --
and FORGOT about it !

I would paint and seal any apparatus beneath...

@ BillR -

When back probing the ICM connector, do you suggest removing
the radiator fan, or accessing from beneath the car/engine?

thanks, Tom m

Re: 1997 SW2 Crank but no start, stuck on wiring.

The 'S' series ignitions can be reliable.
I had some idle/misfiring/plug-fouling on my '97, until installing quality
Magnatec plug wires; after that, no misfiring/fouling between
170,000 &...

Re: no-start issue; fuel prime/bleed?

At least once it ran on all cylinders for a second to maybe 900 rpm.
Generally, when I crank-to-start, it does rather random firings. It seems
to have best chance of firing with throttle about 12...

Re: no-start issue; fuel prime/bleed?

Thanks, Bill.
I'll check comp in A.M. (also look for ECTS, was in vicinity).

No live data, maybe scan for codes....

I would have installed gauge ... but it is at a distance !

I also removed the existing catcon (pipe was shot)...
