Re: '95 SL2 question

Oil threads come up from time to time, and while some have a favorite oil brand, I think consensus is "just make sure you keep it filled." Buy any inexpensive 10W30 oil (in the south you won't need...

Re: 97 to 95 interchange????

I want to second the recommendation of keeping the '97 injectors when you swap the engines. '95 and '97 injectors LOOK the same, but are in fact different(low impedence vs. high impendence), and...

Re: URGENT HELP PLEASE, transmition instalation

I take it you are doing this inside the engine compartment, correct?

There are no tricks I know of. I completely pulled the engine out of the car when I did my work, and you just had to work the...

Re: Why does some SC2's get better gas mileage than others (30+)

I wanted to chime in about the effects of A/C on gas mileage as well. I do have a manual transmission, but with A/C off (it was broken earlier this summer), I got ~36 MPG, once the A/C was fixed, I...

Re: Need Help :(

Is the SES light on? Does it have any codes via an OBDII scanner?

Uzzy makes great suggestions about the plugs, wires and coil packs. Are all the vacuum lines hooked up correctly? Also, you...

Re: 96 SL2 with P0300

In the How-to section, Wolfman has a P0300 troubleshooting thread that you might find helpful.

Re: Alternator, Battery or me?

The guys above give excellent advice (check the tensioner, alternator, battery), but if you're getting that "pulsing/dimming light" sensation, it could also be your positive/negative battery...

Re: Is it possible to remove engine from top WITHOUT removing transaxle

If your tranny is an automatic, you can separate the two, supposedly gain enough clearance and pull the engine; if it's a manual, you are best served to pull them as a unit. I've only pulled manuals...

Re: Just got t-boned on passenger center side

As others have said, I'm glad you are OK, and sorry we lose another Saturn to the road warriors! It is always good to know that Saturns serve their owners well! Gad, does that mean Saturns are...

Re: Updated info on the 95 SL1 possible purchase(advice needed) post earlier

I agree with bubba. (Wow, how often do you hear that? :D ) Find out what is meant by "new" engine. If it was indeed a new Saturn engine, that sweetens the pot a bit, but a used engine had other...

Re: How to swap a 95 SL2 motor into a 98 SW2

As for the '95 EGR valve working in a later model... I am using the '95 EGR in my '96 SC2, and I have seen no problems whatsoever. Runs great, gets 35 MPG, no SES codes, so I think it is safe to...

Re: dont know what I am looking for?

After doing all of the good suggestions above, and finding no problem, I'd have a wheel alignment done. That is especially true if you are seeing any find of uneven tire tread wear.

Re: How to swap a 95 SL2 motor into a 98 SW2

I've pulled a Saturn engine three times now, and personally I would always have at least two people for the hoist pull and re-insertion. Remember, someone has to operate the lift, and it is a tight...

Re: How to swap a 95 SL2 motor into a 98 SW2

I believe the EGR valve in the '95 should be compatible with the '98, but if there is a question, you should be able to put on the one from your '98.

Be sure to swap out the fuel rail/injectors...

THX, I just wanted to say that I totally agree with you about being railed upon by rude customers who are unhappy about having their expectations unfulfilled. Obviously, you didn't personally do it,...

Re: 97 SL2 Cooling Fan

If you have checked the fuse and relay, I'd remove the radiator shield and hook up the fan directly to the battery with jumper wires and see if it works. Most likely, your fan has died. It's pretty...

Re: Policy

SaturnTech, I know this is personal for you, but that first statement just isn't true, consumers complain about EVERYBODY, not just mechanics. For most consumers, complaining is the ONLY option they...

Re: Things to try for obnoxious idle?

If the PCV hose looks cracked, that would be my first fix. A racing idle condition is usually a problem with improper vacuum, and cracked hoses are the usual culprit. It doesn't need to be OEM, it...

Re: Can't seat axle in transmission

I've have mine out three times now, and what has worked for me is to just grip with both hands and act as if I'm taking a plunger to the toilet (albeit a bit more gently.) Obviously, you don't want...

Re: Things to try for obnoxious idle?

The first thing I would check for is a vacuum leak. There aren't that many lines on a '95 SC2, but I'd check the PCV hose and the lines that run from the TB and the fuel regulator for cracks. ...

Re: one problem done, another arises: Inner CV Boot leak

If you are going to replace the whole unit, and you caught this early/the hole isn't that big, you shouldn't worry about driving it around for two weeks, you'll be fine. Certainly getting dirt in...

Re: My Grandmothers SC1 was totalled today

I'm sorry to hear of the passing of another Saturn, but VERY happy to hear that your grandmother is fine! THAT IS WONDERFUL!

If your grandmother lost her SC1, you could always give her that SC2...

Re: stumped

Since you mention that this is a '95 engine in a '97 Saturn: which fuel injectors are you using, the '95 or '97? '95 and earlier fuel injectors are not compatible with '96 and later FIs (low...

Re: one problem done, another arises: Inner CV Boot leak

I'd remove it completely from the car first, it'll be loads easier to work with. If you haven't put the hubs back on that shouldn't take much time at all.

As far as the library, I don't know, but...

Re: one problem done, another arises: Inner CV Boot leak

It's not a hard job at all. Remove (carefully cut off) the bad boot, undo a snap ring that will disassemble the CV joint so that you can put on the new boot, clean the internals thoroughly if any...
