Re: Replacing intake manifold 2002 SC2

Never worked on a third gen, cannot give advice for replacing the manifold.

As for stocking up, you could get the dorman kit to replace the water inlet pipe, instead of all new manifolds.

Re: Extinct Car Day Brookline Mass 10-22-2022

I would like to get up to the show, but it depends on my course load. Would love to bring the 94 Sl1 or 95 SW2 up.

Re: Can I add jack-tilt detection to the OEM key fob alarm-98 SC2

Your cat is worth maybe $60 (that is what I sold my 1995's cat for during the peak of the prices). Tape a note with it's value next to it, I am sure they will be lazy and not cut it out for a meager...

Re: Saturn SL-1 clutch not *fully* dis-engaging

I would still recommend changing the hydraulic system, but it is a good sign that the pumping has helped.

If it had a large leak I would think you'd loose some clutch throw with that.

Try...

Re: How is this subframe rust

Looks decent, the bubbling would not concern me until it is fully through or can be poked through with a screwdriver.

Re: A question about trunk torque rods

There may be an adjustment for them, I believe there are a few slots they can be hooked into.

Re: Transmission Sound...

If you were able to rebuild an engine, you can definitely handle doing a diff job.

I recommend having the pin welded in by a competent fabrication shop, then reinstalling it with new bearings on...

Re: Raybestos front brake hose Manufacturing defect

I recommend sunsong.
Both of my 95's have all sunsong brake hoses. The sunsongs came with crush washers (centrics on our family '98 did not), and they are shaped very close to the factory lines.

Re: Saturn SL-1 clutch not *fully* dis-engaging

Do the wire test which was mentioned before. If it is out of spec, I would replace the clutch hydraulic system with a pre-bled fully assembled unit.

I would also suggest not driving it the way it...

Re: Automatic transmission questions

Automatics are generally pretty reliable, the two main issues seem to be either valve bodies, or loosened input shaft nuts.

Valve bodies will cause hard/erratic shifting, and a potential delay or...

Re: Top or bottom

Was this a manual car or auto?
On an auto you can just pull the engine straight out of the top, as there are no input shaft splines to align.

Re: Top or bottom

Out the top by far. Removing the PS pump is about 4 bolts, and you do not have to disconnect the lines. Same with AC pump, just move it out of the way.

Only time coming out the top is more of a...

Re: Cgg17's SW2 Thread

A: Considered often, but I like the durability of the steelies. No fear when nailing a pothole or hitting some road debris.

Eventually I would like to put my set of geartooths on the wagon and...

Re: Cgg17's SW2 Thread

Thank you, I appreciate it. I am majoring in mechanical engineering, and set to graduate this spring. Hopefully I can use my skills to help others keep these on the road once parts start to dry up.

Re: Cgg17's SW2 Thread

Later this spring I was able to find a newer hood that was not peeling and I acquired a good matching fender and door skin to replace the off-colored ones that came with the wagon. Everything matches...

Re: Cgg17's SW2 Thread

Figured I would update this thread a bit, as the wagon got some upgrades since I posted last.

After the first delayed reverse engagement this spring, I decided to ditch the automatic and swap in a...

Re: Where to find 1991 SL2 body parts for body shop

Looks fine to me, though nothing is set in stone until the broken fender is removed for inspection.

How did you get the car? I see it is far from it's original home in PA. Just curious how it made...

Re: Engine/transmission mounts

No way would I pay what you were quoted, these cars are a breeze to work on and should not take $550 (assumed to be 5.5 hours @ $100/hr) in labor. And $350 for parts is way too much.

As for the...

Re: Ok, brake experts, does this look right?

I usually pull one side's drum for reference while I mess with the springs on the other side. They can get confusing if both sides are disassembled.

Re: Engine/transmission mounts

If the shop has a lift and knows how to work on S-Series efficiently, here's how I would break it down:

Parts lookup: 15 minutes
Initial disassembly: 15 minutes
(Put car on lift, remove...

Re: 98 SC2 P171-Fuel trim System Lean, help fix Please!

Dropping the tank is not too bad, just try to empty it as much as you can before dropping it.

I have done it multiple times with a singular floor jack, two jack stands, and some basic hand tools.

Re: 98 SC2 Sunroof slider broken clips & surging motor help

Unfortunately you need the parts from the sunroof doctor kit before you can determine whether or not the motor is failing. Without the proper guides, the roof will not move the way it was designed,...

Re: Rust repair panels?

Best bet is to cut out one from a junkyard car. There are no aftermarket weld-in repair panels for S-Series at this point in time.
