Re: Center console extra warm next to shifter

Lift the center console up and check it out. Easy. :D

There is a heater vent in there that routes to the under seat exits on the floor. Pull the center console and check it out. It may just be...

Re: Turning the air resonator into free under hood storage

Not sure if I would want that on a car crossing the border into Mexico. Just sayin'......

And it's surprising how much intake noise can be heard over engines at certain speeds and...

Re: intake manifold. coolant hoses

To prevent icing in the manifold and throttle body. I've seen a number of vehicle examples where people have removed them to cool manifold temp. None of the people died from a frozen open throttle...

Re: 1996SL11.9L's 2002 SL1

It can be a never ending cycle unless you just do a bunch of it at once. But it sure beats making payments or fixing something newer.

I don't know if I could tolerate tire pressures that high...

Re: Ever Seen One?

Was that stock on your car? We had a '95 and I don't remember anything weird about the wipers..

Re: Weird clutch slipping! Help!

Hard to say for sure without more testing. Often a clutch will slip more in higher gears as the load increases. More aero drag and the same torque applied from the engine. Depending on shift...

Re: Dip stick reading education..

BUT.... in some cases highway cruising doesn't burn as much oil as off highway or stop and go driving. In my car highway trips consumed almost nothing compared to my regular commute. YMMV.

Re: EGR question

Aftermarket anything can be funky at times, but not always.

It could also be that it just gets a bit of carbon stuck every now and then. Sometimes cleaning the ports to the EGR helps in that...

Re: Possible Fix for Oil Burning - Scotty Kilmer

I think for the most part it depends on the solvent used, and how stuck the ring package already was. I used a similar "dump it in and run it" product from Amsoil years ago in an old truck. At the...

Re: Saturn Craigslist Deal of the Day!

That almost looks like it could be a grandma drives it to church cars that sat in a garage or something.

Looks like a good find and price.

Re: Thermostat.... again?

I had one of the Motorad thermostats with housing in my SL1 when I got rid of it. No worse than anything else that was ever in it. There has been a lot of hand waving here about the Stant, but it...

Re: My 1994 Homecoming Edition "Restoration" Thread

Good to see that you're finding the time again. Keeping the older cars on the road can take some time, but it's rewarding as well.

Re: specifics on compression testing, P0301

Not enough cranking time. Based on the video you're only getting a few full turns of the engine through the compression stroke.

With the car not able to start, it should crank as long as you hold...

Re: 2021 Extinct Car Show at Larz Anderson Auto Museum

I'm wondering where the info is.... who made it?

This has been an event I wanted to get to but never did. I hope it doesn't die out in participation too soon!

Re: Is this the end?

There would still be a lot of question marks for me personally, but I get that not everyone has the time to troubleshoot everything either.

Plugs (cheap), compression test and fuel pressure test...

Re: Is this the end?

+1 on this. The wrong type of platinum plugs can play all kinds of games with these cars.

I'd also still do the EGR block. At times on the early cars it will set a code quickly, other times it...

Re: Is this the end?

From your posts, is the engine misfiring to the point you can easily hear it, or just lacking power?

Plenty of things left to check really... you are just getting started.

Since you mentioned...

Re: Wasp nest behind mirror…

Just be warned, if they do hang off after a highway right they are generally fairly pissed off when you get out of the car. Been there, done that!

Re: Mixing orange and green antifreeze

As Billr said above, there should always be flow when the engine is running.

If you are seeing bubbling, maybe you just don't have a good angle on the line. If you take the line off at the...

Re: How test if radiator fan is working?

The easiest way to check the fan motor and wiring is simply to remove the ECTS connector and then start the car. The fan should turn on.

You can also check wiring to the fan by probing the...
