Re: Has anyone added an air filter?

It'd have to be water proof, that whole area gets it pretty good when it rains.

Re: Oil Pressure Lamp Won't Turn On Even With Good Bulb

If it were me I'd use it as an excuse to add a real oil pressure gauge and forget about the idiot light.

If you really want it to work then you have to put more time into diagnosing depending on...

Re: Torque Strut, Strut to Cradle Bracket & Transaxle Mount to Cradle Nut Torque Spec

24ft/lbs for the 10mm bolts into the transmission, 37ft/lbs for the rest.

Re: 2001 Saturn SL2 transmission trouble

The transmission filter is virtually identical to the oil filter, no reason for a drain & refill w/ new filter to be $320 more than an oil change. Like an oil filter, the trans filter comes with a...

Re: Oil Pressure Lamp Won't Turn On Even With Good Bulb

The OPS wire is one of the tan wires in the harness from the OPS to the cluster. Enters the UHFB at pin B9 on the brown connector, leaves the UHFB at F7 on the black connector (no fuse involved,...

Re: Oil Pressure Lamp Won't Turn On Even With Good Bulb

Totally missed that OP put LED's in. L-ight E-mitting D-iode. Diode = electrical shunt that basically means polarity matters.

The cluster bulb sized LED usually doesn't have polarity marked and...

Re: Oil Pressure Lamp Won't Turn On Even With Good Bulb

I've had it come unplugged a few times scaring the...oil...out of me with the red "change engine soon" light coming on, but yes the next step after unplugging is grounding to check the ground leg of...

Re: Monroe OE Spectrum

I think the only strut brands I wouldn't recommend are Sensacraps (SENSATRAC) and Unity (also Unity clones). Unity for ovbious reasons, Sensacraps for identical reasons except you're paying quality...

Re: New Timken wheel bearings/hubs have play?

I'm thinking ruley73 has never tightened the axle nut to try to get another couple weeks out of a bad bearing before.

I'm also thinking any mechanic that mistakes play at the knuckle/strut area...

Re: 00 SL1 Shaking while Still with smooth idle.

Based on old reports from people who've tried both styles of aftermarket mounts and then splurged on an OEM mount...no matter the aftermarket mount they're crap compared to OEM. 99% sure OEM is no...

Re: Economy ? Seriously ?

Sounds like your SL2 has been neglected and/or worked on by morons. I had a SL2 like that as well, except the moron was me. Got down to about 18mpg before I realized there were serious issues (had...

Re: P1406 (EGR) woes

AllData indicates it's more of a wiring issue than a sensor issue.

Re: I know this has been discussed ...I just can't find it !!

99% sure it's in a more clear format in your owners manual than in AllDataDIY which from what I can find says change at 6k miles then forget about it. If I still have an owners manual somewhere, it's...

Re: loose timing chain? 96 DOHC 1.9

Eliminate serpentine belt issue's first. It does sound like the chain tensioner has a problem, but the serp belt tensioner can make similar noise's when it's failed.

Re: Highmile gets an upgrade

It's crazy how much debris gets built up in the radiator and A/C condenser. An air compressor and blow gun help get a lot of the debris out and they make combs to get the fins back into shape too. I...

Re: 1997 SL 2 Manual Saturn Transaxel Question

I'd get a gallon of Dex III (usually Dex/Merc label now), a long funnel and a turkey baster. The trans only holds about 2.6qts so you'll have some fluid left over. Use the turkey baster to suck the...

Re: Backfire and mini backfires?

There's also 2 sensor types that the parts interchange can get confused about.

Re: Pulling SC2 transmission

The auto normally either comes out bolted to the engine or out the driver side unbolted from the engine. The engine can come out while leaving the auto in the car. Sorry, I was less than clear about...

Re: Ran out of gas- Fuel gauge "stops" at 1/8- no dancing, Sender or PCM?

I believe it's either '96 alone that doesn't have the low fuel light or everything before '97. Betting '96 alone as that was one of the mentioned issues with swapping the gauge cluster to a '97.

Re: Reverse Slam Cure - Change fluid/filter after?

When in doubt replace the fluid. Use only Dex III/Mercron compatible fluid, nothing that says Dex IV, V, VI or whatever the current junk is.

Using a machine to flush it out is nearly always a bad...

Take your set of jumper cables and connect on one end the black to the frame of the starter and the red to the...

Re: Fake Bumblebee?

You passed on a yellow SC2, not a Bumblebee. The BB's were only 2001 model year and only 99 were made. I believe about 40 of them have been tracked down, 3-4 were found in scrapyards.

Re: 1998 sc2 header

Fed emissions should be the same '93-'98, Cali the same '96-'98.

If you actually want a header, only the '91-'92's got them from the factory.
