Do you have the correct ECM for the manual transmission??
Is the ECM grounded. There is a ground wire under one of the ECM bolts.
Crankshaft sensor, I believe its located under the starter.

Look carefully in the passenger side rear wheel well. You'll see where the filler tube and vent tube enter the fuel tank.
There is a check valve in the filler tube, just as it enters the fuel...

Will it start if you use starting fluid?
Spray some f;uid into the intake and then crank it to see if it starts.

One way to tell if you have bent valves. Remove the timing chain and cams, all valves should now be closed. then do a compression test. if you have good compression, then you lucked out.

The four banger is an interference engine, if the chain is broke, piston hit valves and bent them and possibly punched a hole through the piston, etc. Sometimes, if the chain only jumped by one...

You say, "Tried to turn the crank manually and would not budge".. I assume you put a wrench or socket on the crank and a tried to turn it. Remove all four plugs and the crank should easily turn...

I's say once you get past the 2004s, rust will be the number one killer.
Front engine cradle mounts, rear suspension mounts, fuel lines.

Harbor Freight has them for $20. We use it to check tires on the motorhome when we stop. Also used it two years ago to take daily temperatures of myself and the DW.

This is a link to some ground issues I had and some of the problems it caused.
I ran a couple extra ground wires just to make sure. Never had any more...
