More of an informative heads up than anything else, I just sold this car and the new owner has posted it up again. What the seller doesn't...

Re: Cutting out on highway

Eh, not in a Saturn, but when the alternator started to go in my brother's Volvo this is exactly what would happen. The alt hadn't completely failed, but was on the verge. Wouldn't hurt to have it...

Heart This is the end

Well, the time has finally come. I signed over my 1999 SL2 to a new owner this morning. I had her for almost 5 1/2 years and close to 90,000mi (now showing 243xxx on the clock).

Thanks for...

Re: Interested in a Sky, advice?

Yeah, there a ton a ton of Miatas in the area, but they don't really do it for me. Much like the Solstice doesn't. Thankfully I'm not looking for practical in any way shape or form :).

Interested in a Sky, advice?

So, the wife has given tentative approval on buying a roadster type vehicle, since we have a more practical primary car we can rely on. With that said, I've loved my SL2, but it will definitely be...

Re: What did you do to your S-Series today...

Check the oil and topped off the fuel tank.
Oil was good, put in 10.505 gal on 336mi for a nice and tidy 32mpg.

Re: I need the masters of the Saturn's forms assistance. 99 sl2 stuck in 2nd gear

If it's just a bushing it's a pretty simple fix, just take apart the center console and install a new bushing.. If you've managed to fray or shear the cable it's a little more involved but still...

Re: Starting/Electrical issues

We have a winner! This is why I love the internet and this site specifically. While I had done the 'tug' test on the cables to make sure they were tight I hadn't taken a wrench to them. So, when I...

Wrench Starting/Electrical issues

My brother has been borrowing my '99SL2 for the last 3-4 months or so and called me with a starting problem today. Hoping someone can help me narrow this down, I have my suspicions but am looking...

Re: Very high RPM at startup - doesn't drop

It's probably the TPS as stated above. But... when I had this exact problem it was my ECTS sensor. It was reading stone cold causing an idle spike.

Re: How-To: Removing Shifter Cables (with Pictures)

Just wanted to say thanks for this post with pictures. I had a devil of a time doing this, honestly, but it got done!

Couple of hints I would add: I completely removed the battery to make...

Re: '99 SL2 AC not engaging

Heh, no worries, I've seen a few other posts of yours on the subject, no sealer. I'll take a look at the tests you suggest this weekend and see what there is to see, thanks for the info.

'99 SL2 AC not engaging

I think i know the final answer, but figured i'd pick some brains here:

Over the winter some time my AC kicked the bucket. I figured I'd do a quick and dirty by just recharging the system and...

Re: After cleaning throttle body

Things are looking pretty good now:
Cold start RPM spike ~1500rpm
Warm up idle at ~1150rpm
Warm idle ~900rpm
Rolling idle >4mph ~1150rpm
RPM spike when switching out of gear ~1250rpm

Re: After cleaning throttle body

I changed out the ECTS earlier today, snagged the wife's car and ran down to O'Reilly's so i was able to leave the Satty cold. About 5min to switch it out and another minute to reset the PCM. My...

Re: After cleaning throttle body

Yeah, next step is going to be the ECTS. The temp gauge on the dash has never quite registered correctly (needle barely moves over the 'C' line unless idling in traffic, then never above 1/4). Off...

Re: After cleaning throttle body

I did a quick run around the neighborhood and noticed it was still popping up to about 2k rpms when out of gear for a few seconds. It does seem marginally better but I did not have time to bring it...

After cleaning throttle body

Quick question:

I just followed an excellent guide to clean an SL2 throttle body on YouTube by Richpin06 that I can't link to because of low post restrictions.

How long before I should see a...

Re: What DON`T you like about your Saturn

Just two things:

Burning 1qt of oil every 1500mi, like clockwork!

The cupholders are terrible. Badly placed and need to have an extra 1/4 - 1/2" diameter. Can't use my good coffee cup...

Re: Why Do You Own a Saturn?

I got a new job and we needed a 2nd car. Had been scouring Craigslist for a couple of weeks and wasn't having any luck with my budget ($<2000). Went home for lunch after test driving a couple of...
